Random F1 Warning Light

Clutch on the way out perhaps?

 

Stop by your local workshop some time and have them pull the codes.....report those codes back here...


Warning lights are not there to fill in space, although sometimes they can be a bit of a hypercondriac.


Hey Pap, will a worn clutch throw a check light on a 355F1?

 

I think it does when the clutch is worn out. It throws it up all the time as the throw-out bearing 'modulates'/freaks out trying to find gears to drive.

In this case, if the light comes on and off, then I have a feeling the clutch slipped for a second there, confusing the F1 system and causing the light to come on. But because its not totally worn yet, the light went away and the car drove as per normal.

As the clutch wears out, you will see more of that light I reckon. But let it go and see what happens. If its not slipping, then dont stress too much about it. I could be on the wrong track anyways.

Or get the codes checked and go from there. It could even be an electrical gremlin.

 

From memory I thought when the clutch was worn the driver would hear a "beep" warning sound, I think that's what my old owners manual said anyway....

I've been wrong before...

 

The light will come on if there is not enough pressure being produced by the F1 hydraulic pump, this will cause problems shifting....

How worn was the clutch 6000miles ago??

You need to get the codes from the TCU, I think this is a Ferrari specific tool?? (Not OBD II)

 

Doesnt mean that the clutch is not on its way out.

It may just be an electrical gremlin then mate.

If you car shifts fine and it doesnt seem like the clutch is slipping, then dont stress too much about it I reckon. Let it develop.

Im sure I have read many threads (mainly in the 360 section) in regards to this.

I would assume the F1 system in the 360 would be similar to the 355 system. Obviously different pump, t/o bearing etc....

But the same concept and probably VERY similar software to run it.

 

The F1 warning will come on at a stop if you're not moving, but don't have a foot on the brake (after a few seconds).

Also will come on for a worn clutch, I experienced that one first hand

And no, OBDII codes won't show anything related to the F1. You need a $15,000 Ferrari SD2 reader...

Just to be safe, check the fluid level too. Although if your fluid is low enough to trip an F1 warning you've got bigger problems!
