Interstate MTP-6 is a perfect fit, and a very good battery.

my stock battery looks like it has some stick on heat shield around it. how important is that to replace given i have never noticed it on another car?

Henry- It just extends battery life a bit. Kind of a tight fit with the insulation and battery and the insulation usually needs to be trimmed slightly to fit the battery, at any rate.

Henry- Here is what I have on batteries. It is an MTP-91, not an MTP-6.

MTP-91 Interstate fits perfectly with slight mod of the insulation ala box cutter. A mere trim. More cranking amps than the Fiamm.

Delco 48-6YR or 48/91-6YR is a substitute for the MTP-91. Special order, no personal experience.

    My bad, its MTP-H6

Both are very good, slight difference in dimensions. MTP-91 has slightly higher CCA, H-6 is more expensive, and heavier.

Dave- Will add the MTP-6H to my list. Here are the details on the original FIAMM VR760:

    FIAMM VR760

    CAPACITY (Ah): 115 (min.)
    COLD CRANKING (A EN): 760
    CHARGE: Wet
    DIMENSIONS (mm): 276x175x175 (10.87x6.89x6.89 in. )
DIMENSIONAL GROUP: L3B (says L3C in WSM)

This would seem to indicate the FIAMM actually has more cold cranking power than either Interstate battery.

Interestingly, the FIAMM applications tables (pdf too big to attach) shows the 575M replacement battery as a Titanium Plus L3 80+, not the VR 760. Here are excerpts from the tables.

If any one wants the FIAMM applications pdf, let me know and I can e-mail it to you. It is 3.2 Mb.

Henry, Dave- Ricambi had dry FIAMMs for the 575M for about $400 last time I checked. I do not even think concourse judges care any more.

what insulation? the battery trim or the car insulation ? the mtp-h6 actually looks like it has the same dimensions except the height.

mtp-91 fits but the added height makes it a bit tougher to get in. i could only get the heat shield around 3 sides so i left the aft-face uncovered. the difference in the 'feet' makes the battery sit more aft so the shielding doesn't fit. you could trim the forward foot and probably get it all to fit - but its more likely your heat shield will fall apart getting the battery out.

For length and width the MTP-H6 is almost exactly the same as the Fiamm, just a bit taller which is no problem fitting. I don't have any insulation, previous owners must have removed it, but your insulation blanket should fit just fine.

i have the mtp-91 as having virtually the same deck height. just a little longer 11.38 vs 10.87 for the WOP battery.

i'm gonna try the mtp-h6. looks to be about 1/2 taller but everything else matches.

Henry, you have to remove the coolant tank, but you do not have to disconnect the hoses, just move the whole thing, hoses and all out of the way.

i swapped out the battery today. having shorty ratchet wrenches helps out big time. 10, 12, 13mm.

here's a pick of the old WOP battery. the interstate MTP-6H is a exact copy as far as sizing even though the earlier posts show it to be slightly taller. it is a ***** to get the battery out without removing the coolant overflow tank. there are a couple of hoses attached that still manage to take up some room.

best procedure is to slightly tilt and lift straight up. the battery is only 40 lbs or so. i just used my free hand while drinking a beer.

now i'm of to the dealer friday as my check engine light is now on....:(

    Just FYI

I asked the Interstate guy today (the shop next door is an Interstate dealer) what the ”H” in H6 stood for thinking it might mean it has handles. What he said was that the “H” series are the highest quality battery they make, similar to a 91 but of a higher quality.

Neither does mine. "H" stands for Heavy Duty, not handles
