For those who despise Alonso, isn't it time to admit the real reason?

I've watched this play-out over the last 5 years. 99% of Fernando Alonso hate, really stems from FA having the nerve to beat MS, and ruining Schumacher's last two seasons.

Lets be honest for a moment. When FA ruined Schumacher's last two years and retirement (and we all know the pure Ferrari fan thought MS was a God)... Alonso became the most hated man on F-chat. And it still lingers strong under the surface, for most of the folks who aren't comfortable with Alonso moving over to team Ferrari.

It has been twisted and repackaged into many silly arguments... about how he wrecks teams, and has a bad personality, isn't a good person away from the track....but come on? We all know where the soar spot originated from. He is the man who had the nerve to beat MS, and a true Ferrari fan can never admit that MS was only a man

I feel sorry for the hard core fans. How can a true Ferrari fan ever get behind Alonso? SCHUMACHER IS FERRARI... and Alonso was the man who dared to beat him

 

As a die-hard Scuderia Ferrari fan, I couldn't be happier to see FA in one of our cars on the grid. I will admit that back during the years he was beating MS were frustrating, but you can't deny his true speed and talent. Especially the past few troublesome years with Renault after his short stint at McLaren, watching him muscle around the poor Renault chassis to consistent points finishes has been a treat to watch. I truly believe that FA is the best driver on the grid and as much as I HATED WATCHING him beat MS during Schumi's final years, I never hated Fernando for it, he was just doing his job.

Does make me a little sad to see Kimi go however, he's always been a personal favorite. Will be great to see him back at McLaren with a reliable package though. He would have won a few world championships with McLaren before if they hadn't had such reliability issues...

But all that will go away once Alonso starts winning for the Scuderia.

 

Sorry Mark, not here. Also I would not say that I hate the guy. I think he should never be allowed in an FIA event or the despicable and unsportsmanlike conduct he has presented to have. Michael or not. I can even say I never liked Michael Schumacher and yet I have some exquisite MS memorbilia that I am proud to own. For the talent that he has/had not for the man.

 

not for me. Sorry. He is a disgrace for the sport and as such for Ferrari. For the first time since I was 10 can I say I am not proud to own a Ferrari anymore. Started with a Matchbox 308.

I'll rightfully admit he's an incredible driver. I'm more not a fan of the attitude, and baggage he seems to carry around. I'll support Massa or whoever is in the other car, but I think FA is a huge mistake. If I ever change my mind I'll gladly eat my own words.

 

I guess I just found it... a fresh change of pace, when someone finally showed-up that could take the fight to MS, and break the dull drums that F1 had become... with year-after-year of MS dominating everything.

It really stirred the pot on F-chat, but I thought it was good for the sport.
F1 had gotten to the point, that we didn't need to watch the race to know who was going to win.

 

That sort of logic is truly moronic. That is not a reason to despise the man, it is a reason to respect the man. The reason I dislike Alonso is his obvious betrayal of Flavio, the man who made it possible for him in F1. But then again I guess I'm not a "true" Ferrari fan, whatever that is.

I'm not the biggest Alonso fan either...but once he wears the red racing suit all will be forgiven

Watching Schumacher win was fun for a while, but it got really dull after a while.

Where did Alonso betray Flavio? Piquet Jr. betrayed Flavio. Alonso dedicated his 3rd place finish of Singapore to Flavio in a time when it was fashionable to hate Briatore. That's character.

Don't worry about that. There is often some self righteous idiot who tells people that they are not true fans. Who cares.

That's exactly how it works. Was the same thing when Schummel-Schumi (Schumi the cheater) replaced the beloved Sicilan Alesi. Once MS started winning the Italian press and fans couldn't get enough of him.

 

Anyone remotely familiar with the marque and its history knows that Ferrari is bigger than any individual driver.

Well, that's definitely not my view. I used to be a fan of Alonso. He drove amazingly well when he beat Kimi in 2005 and when he beat Schumacher in 2006. What turned me off to him was his behavior towards Renault in 2006 and much more so McLaren in 2007.

I couldn't believe that he said Renault wasn't behind him and that they possibly didn't want him to win because he would take the #1 to McLaren the next year. Way to motivate the team...

Then he goes to McLaren and is happy to use info he knows is stolen, yet tries to blackmail Ron Dennis by threatening to expose it. What if the team got banned that year and everyone was out of a job? Not his problem. He got immunity for what he did so who cares about the rest of the team. Kimi never did that.

I would love nothing more than for Alonso to have learned from those mistakes and be a real team builder at Ferrari like Schumacher was, precisely because I'm a bigger fan of the team than either of their drivers. Based on past performances though I don't see that happening and that's why I'm not happy that he's in red next year. It has nothing to do with Schumacher getting beaten in 2006.

Simple bet. Since I say Ferrari should have kept Kimi, I'll bet he scores more points next year (assuming he signs with McLaren) than Alonso. A case of beer to the winner. You in?

 

That's an interesting one since the new Ferrari could be as bad as the F60. But what the heck:

Great thread, so true. I hated him in 2005 and 2006. Even if he had never beaten Schumi, he has matured since then anyway. Happy to have him.

 

You're way off base with your analogy, and I'll tell you why, at least in my case. I'm a die hard Tifosi of 35 years and I love and respect Alonso for what he managed to do at Renault vs Ferrari. I don't feel that Alonso out drove Schumacher, he won 2 WDC's because Bridgestone had their head up their ass, period. Especially Zo's first WDC, come on, I would give anything to see all those cars on Bridgestones like today ! Now that would have been a laugh ! But I will still give Zo a tip of the cap, because he beat all comers, theres no denying that. Michael's last year was more frustrating for sure but I give Ferrari credit for the never say die mentality that nearly got Schumy his 8th, the same attitude that Kimi benefited from the next year.

True Tifosi will love Alonso, lets hope Ferrari will give him a car that's a title contender.

 

My opinion of Alonso has nothing to do with his racing results, but all about my perception about what kind of a man he is.
