I only found an article in Italian at the moment--> http://www.gazzetta.it/Motori/Formula1/01-10-2009/massa-ho-subito-furto-501471288993.shtml I'm sure some articles in English will soon appear. Basically Massa believes that the FIA should have changed the 2008 WDC outcome in light of crash-gate and he is also upset that it took Piquet a year to speak out.
aww..poor baby! but he's ok with the FIA messing with Hami's points that year? if this, then that, if not for that, shoulda woulda coulda... blah blah blah blah.. he's gotta be thinking...****, that was probably my last/only chance to win a title, now that i'm busted up, and FA is here--aw crap~
I can see where he is coming. Lewis didn't deserve the title for other factors but the team at the end of the day stuffed up his pit-stop. That is part of racing reacting to whatever situation might be thrown at them. Cheating or not they didn't perform at 100% and Massa suffered as a result.
Here it is English: I haven't checked. If the Singapore GP was declared null and void what would it do to the Championship points for last year?
I believe Andreas did an analysis and that LH would still be WDC. No matter this is very old news. Felipe should let it go, keep the high ground and not have addressed this in public. Given that, the FIA should look at policy relating to these things and debate whether in the future tainted(proven) races are excluded from the results.
I've just looked. If the race results were removed from the championship then it would have ended this way: Massa 97 Hamilton 92 Kimi 75 I think he should just leave it and move on, but if I were in his position I would probably feel robbed too.
If the Singapore points were simply deleted: Alonso would lose 10 points, dropping him from 5th to 7th in the WDC. (Heidfeld and Kovi would move up one spot each to 5th and 6th.) Rosberg would lose 8 points, dropping him from 13th to 14th, behind Rubens. Hamilton would lose 6 points, dropping him from WDC to 2nd, and Massa would have been WDC. Glock would lose 5 points, dropping him from 10th to 11th, behind Webber. Vettel would lose 4 points, leaving him 8th. Heidfeld would lose 3 points, but would still move up to 5th because of Alonso losing 10. Coultard would lose 2 points, remaining at 11th. Nakajima wouls lose 1 point, remaining at 15th. Renault would lose 10 points, Williams would lose 9 points, McLaren would lose 6 points, Toyota would lose 5, STR would lose 4, BMW would lose 3, RBR would lose 2. WCC results would be unchanged. But by the same token, if they simply DQ'd Alonso, Rossberg would be declared the Singapore winner, Hamilton would move up to 8 points, Massa would still be out of the points, and Lewis would still be WDC. (100 to 97) Of course, if they also DQ'd Alonso's Fuji win, that would gain Felipe two points, and it'd be a wash: Lewis 100, Felipe 99. Computing the results if Renault were DQ'd from the entire season would take a spreadsheet. And would cost Renault money, and likely lose another brand from the grid. Once you start fiddling with past results, you're in a very murky pool. I agree that Massa certainly earned a WDC last year. The team lost it for him. I've always said that 2008 was the year of the wrong winners. McLaren earned the WCC, but Ferrari won it. But we already knew that the points system is out of whack -- left over from FIA trying to micromanage the results after 2002. We can play with the 2008 results based on different points systems, too. But it's a moot exercise. "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift: that's why it's called the present". -- Kung Fu Panda.
This point was raised and argued some time ago. Speculation is infinite. Points is the only way to determine WDC, Should'a could'a would'a does not compute. Renault cheated, Lewis got more points than Massa, F-Crew fudged it !!
A perspective I gleamed from somewhere was to the effect of: "Piquet Jr's crash didn't lose Massa the Championship. It was Massa driving away with the fuel hose still attached that did it." There's some truth to that. He may not have won the race in Singapore due to Piquet Jr's crash, but had the pit stop not been screwed up then he would almost certainly have finished in the points and therefore won the Championship in Brazil. Massa's commentary seems to conveniently forgo accepting any personal (or team) responsibility for that mistake. I thought the way Massa accepted defeat at the end of 2008 really showed the sort of character worthy of someone you'd be pleased to have as Champion. His recent comments cannot possibly change the result and serve only to detract from his dignity. All the best, Andrew.
Well, you'd expect that from a Brit. But I agree. Massa wasn't robbed by Renault's cheating. Massa was robbed by a blown engine in Hungary, the ill-tested pit light system, and the bad team street course strategies. Even if the pit lights hadn't pewed the scrooch, Ferrari had a tendency to load Felipe up with a ton of fuel on street courses -- enough to significantly slow him. That's probably why the fuel rig was attached for so long in that rushed stop. You could as easily point to the miserable pit strategy in Monaco that ruined an otherwise brilliant drive as the points that lost the championship.
I love the Kung-Fu panda quote! It is true that going over the past is pointless as it can not and will not be changed. I am sure there are many other drivers who think "if only" after losing a championship or a race. I know Eddie Irvine rues the team orders that made him make way for Schumacher in the 1999 French Grand Prix as it lost him the championship, but there are probably hundreds of other examples too.
Yep, bring kubica on board......love massa but let it go already....what race early last year did he spin out of second place and piss away 8 easy points? That's would he should be thinking about....
Seems like the knock on the head and time over analyzing is starting to surface. Just shut up and if you're going to drive again get ready for it. Prove how great you are on the track.
Ill tested is a bit of a mischaracterization. The failures were due to operator error as I recall, and were not errors peculiar to the light system itself (per se). I was say it was ill-conceived, not ill-tested.
You want a Brit view cop for this LH deserved that WDC more than any other driver he was robbed off more points by the farce rulings of the FIA and it's pathetic meddling and you know it!!. Had Massa won it would have been a hollow fixed victory period end off finished enough.
Massa is right and elegant..it was a robbery Hamilton is a liar and a thief, he don t even the courage and honesty to recognise the correct feeling of Massa. F1 circus a thiefs, liars, crooks. And Mc laren start to sell cars ? with the wrong image of liar, thief etc..
LH deserved that WDC more than any other driver he was robbed off more points by the farce rulings of the FIA and it's pathetic meddling and you know it!!. Had Massa won it would have been a hollow fixed victory period end off finished enough. [/QUOTE] Didn't Massa win more races than LH?
It's just one more reason why Briatore should be banned for life. He cheated, and he set in motion a series of unplanned events in doing so. It could have been worse. Massa lost because the hose ripped out in a poorly executed Ferrari pit stop, period. Would the fuel hose problem have occured if it were a normal pit stop and not rushed because of the safety car? We will never know. One thing is for sure -- that electronic lollypop was a problem just waiting to happen. I think anyone that saw that race would have said up until the time of his incident, Massa was a shoe in to win that race and gain 10 points. Personally, I still blame the Ferrari team for screwing up his chances for victory no matter what the circumstances. There is no excuse for what happened that day, not to mention other team failures during the 2008 season -- any of which would have gotten him 2 additional points to win the championship. It is old news. Massa should drop it and move on to 2010 where he has to deal with Alonso's ego (and talent).
Exactly! Massa didn't win because he never should have even been that close in points. Massa lost because of Massa. How many points did he lose by spinning and losing a place to Kubica in Monaco??? How many points did he lose by spinning out of the first two races??? I could go on and on... Nice guy...decent driver...good #2...not a WDC. End of story.
If you do anything to alter the results of Sinapore, then you have to rerun the last race of the year when Hamilton ran a conservative race to reduce risk when he only needed a 5th place finish to secure the title. I agree with those who say "bury this thing."
2008 was highlighted by the FIA dreaming up a new trick each month, to shave points off of Hamilton, so Massa could stay close in the points total. Which brings up a few good trivia question... 1)Who lost the most points in a single season from FIA fudging the points? (Calling something one year on the points leader, that other teams got away with in past years. Or making up penalties... for what should be categorized as good aggressive racing on the track). 2) Or how about the FIA changing the rules to slow one teams domination. Was the tire change for Ferrari in 2005 the most blatant case of this in F1 history.... or was this common before modern FIA manipulations we've seen in the past 10 years? 3) Who got the most penalty points in the history of F1, and actually deserved them?
