What would you do?

  1. Keep the factory leather

  2. Change the leather but keep the stock color

  3. Change the leather and do what ever color makes you happy

  4. Stop being OCD and find something else to play with...

I have been debating with having my 355 re trimmed, the leather is in good shape but it has lost its smell....

    See poll....

    Comments are always welcome....as are photo's ;)

Edit: I should add that if I do re-trim my leather it will be done correctly to match the grain of the factory leather...

I am also planning an interior color change. I wanted a Rosso corsa F355 Berlinetta 6-speed with a Nero interior, but I couldn't find the "right-one" in that color scheme. The only leather that MUST be replaced (rather than re-dyed) in a color change are the seats. The dye just won't stay on with the constant wear. The rest of the leather can just be re-dyed with a good aqueous-based dye (e.g., Leatherique). I have done re-dyes (but not color changes) on my 308s and 328, with great success. It's amazing what a good conditioning and re-dye will do. The leather smell will even return, somewhat.

With respect to your car, IMO the ONLY color for your interior is Nero. You could, perhaps, have the seats done in a Daytona-look, with yellow inserts (or yellow contrasting stitching) and then just condition and re-dye the rest of the leather. Good luck! :)

    Best regards,

    Scott

If the leather is in good shape, I'd leave it alone and buy a 'leather scented' air freshener. ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

See my thread called "Interrior Major" in this section.

I removed all my leather (from the interrior), used letherique, scrubbed all the dirt off, and it looks and feels like brand new.

I am doing some interior refresh/custom leather work on my 355 ......... it is something I have wanted to do for some time after seeing pics of a silver 355 with the best 355 interior I have ever seen  ............. so instead of trying to 'modernize' my 355 I have embraced its 'retro' interior and the new work will follow those lines :)

Thanks Scott, my interior has had a re-dye at some point, and I think this may have muted the smell, that is the main reason I want to replace the leather.

My main question is should I return to the factory spec color as this was bright blue....or just leave the leather as it is in good condition....

The leather is in great shape, I use the car so it is not brand new but there are no wear marks etc as I keep it conditioned....just want the smell back really....

    :D

I strongly dislike all "air fresheners"

    But good thinking....:)

My leather is cleaned and conditioned regularly using products from the local saddle shop. I think it is the re-dye that is hiding the natural smell??

I have been following your thread, and your interior looks great!! Mine is clean and well conditioned but the leather smell is not very strong...

Now your just teasing us Oz!!

The original interior color of my testarossa was dark brown , leather and carpets.
I didn´t like it , so before i brought it to Portugal i had the leather of the seats , roof and door panels changed to tan to match with the brown dashboard.

    Here is the final result

    Reg,

Nothing needs replacing, I just want the smell back. I'm being obsessive really, I am looking for things to do to the car, rather than being content with it as it is. There is a leather smell in the car when you first get in, it's just that the leather smell in my BMW is strong and I want my Ferrari to smell that way too....see,........ obsessive.

Leatherique rejuvenator oil, several coats (3+) with overnight stays at temperature (90+dF). A quick clean with Pristine, and presto, leather smells new...

Buy a new leather coat & keep it in the car with the windows up. The interior will smell like leather instantly.
