Does anyone have original color pictures of the first Daytona spyder as it was introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show? For comparison over in the Dino colors thread there is the new post of> a 1969 Dino 246 in 'Yellow Fly'. Was that the same shade used for the intro Daytona Spyder or is it a different color? Thanks

I was of the opinion is could have been Giallo Solare with the black cut out
    (gloss black unpolished)

The Giallo Solare would make sense as it was used two years before as a 1967 Ferrari color. Perhaps when the Spyder was found and then restored it was painted a darker yellow than the by comparison pale shade of Giallo Solare. Original show intro color pictures would be helpful...

Here is a picture of 365 GTS/4 (serialnr. 12851), taken at the 1969 Frankfurt Autoshow.

    - seems "fly yellow" to me.

    Kind Regards,

Very interesting picture and the color of the spyder is certainly a darker shade. Thanks!

Color shift is always possible on reproduced pictures, but it does look very close to the yellow in the Ferrari banner, as a reference point.

Here's another picture from Frankfurt 1969, taken from Quattroruote October 1969. Sorry about the page fold. I have no idea which picture more correctly depicts the actual color of the car.

notice the spelling of the word "spider"(not spyder) on the stage placard. the letter y does not exist in the italian alfabet. so, why do we spell it spyder(w/ a y).

Jeff thanks for finding the magazine picture! That looks to be Fly Yellow. When the car was found years ago it was red and had been converted to the later pop-up headlights. The serial number of this special Daytona confirmed it's Ferrari 'showcar' history. When the car was restored it was painted in Fly Yellow. The work was of sufficient quality that it won it's class beating another Daytona Spyder at the FCA New York state show.

Likely because it was the Americans who wanted and pushed for a V12 built in a convertible version. Lacking the letter "i" then perhaps that is why Enzo Ferrari never like the name Daytona for this model. Earlier models had names and the next model was known as the Boxer.

That makes it all the more peculiar that the car was painted in Fly Yellow (2 Y's!) or Giallo Fly.
