Wow, it does look nice, sorry to hear. I lost out on one earlier this year that I had a purchase agreement on; really disappointing at the time but ended up with a better one a few weeks later. Hang in there!

Even in the colour grigio the 355 is very red blooded.

I looked at one similar except it had aftermarket wheels in Chicago 2 years ago when I was shopping. I really liked the color but I didn't want a spyder. I tend to go for colors out of the norm. Looks like someone will be getting a nice car.

its still listed for sale on ebay... if they took a deposit they really should take it off of ebay.

Nice looking car. They probably won't take it down until it is actually sold. Usually the eBay auctions say subject to prior sale.

    Put down a second deposit.

    Do it.

By the way, that car has been for sale for more than 6 months.

That's a good idea. I was gonna suggest you leave your name and number with them in the event that this deal does not go through.

I agree... put down a deposit.

Or even offer a few more k's, if you think it is worth it. That way if the new buyer is on the fence it will go to the one that really wants it. It's certainly been done before.

Putting down a second deposit is an interesting idea that hadn't occurred to me.

When I called, I did tell the salesman that I was very serious --- in fact, I simply said, "I want the car". I did give him my name and number and told him to call me if the deal fell through. I also asked what the other party's offer was and suggested I would be willing to try to make a better offer. However, he would not disclose the offer nor consider mine --- I have to say I actually respect that from a seller ---- protecting the integrity of a previous offer they have already accepted.

Sure, there are a lot of 355's around for sale, and another good one will come along. But, I've been looking specifically for a '99 with silver paint, and very specifically tan interior (very rare not to be black or red, in the silver cars) and a 6-speed (a lot of F1's made in '99, but very few manuals). It would not surprise me if this car was a custom order. The combo of a tan interior (on a silver car) and a 6-speed trans (on a '99) may be the only one around ---- Has anyone ever seen another before???

I may try to call back and try again, though ;) In fact, I may just hop on a plane and show up with a check in hand and see what happens :)

use the buy it now on ebay and buy it. If they dont sell it to the first guy then its yours. Keep in mind that cars on ebay are not what they appear to be.

I wasn't ever going to buy it through Ebay --- which is why I called to talk to them directly. I was also going to personally view the car before making a comittment. Had the salesman responded, "Yeah, the car is still for sale", I would have gone down to take a look, and make an offer if everything was kosher. The only reason I asked the guy if he'd consider another offer was to see if he was BS'ing about the whole "already accepted a deposit" deal ----- either he wasn't, or he called my bluff !!

That is a great looking car for sure. With the exceptions of the deep-curbed-scratches all over the front bumper. They sent me the up close high rez pics showing it.

There are plenty more out there :)
