Will probably keep them. They'll join my 348 seats, rads and other bits I have in storage.

50/50 as to wether I'll actually put the centre lock wheels. Still haven't found out teh price of tyres.

Anyone know what size tyres the centre locks would need?

    8.5 x 18 front

    11 x 18 rear

If you look at the Hoosier DOT Radial site -

    https://www.hoosiertire.com/specrr.htm#SPORTS CAR DOT RADIAL

They provide sizing options for a variety of rim widths - applicable to all tyres.

*Note the comment about recommended widths*

You will want to run Pin Drive for these wheels albeit you might be able to modify to suit.

I have a couple of F40 corners I was thinking of experimenting with had I gone that route. There are enough old CanAm early 70's era spares that pop up that you should be able to find a cheap workable solution that will certify in crack testing and wont break the bank. Some of those were designed for 24" wide slicks creating far more load than your car will ever generate.

Monday I will try test fitting the pin drive hub I have to a Lola, McLaren and Lotus F5000 wheels I have on the wheel rack and see if they ran the same pin spread and shaft diameter....sure look the same from memory.

I am so happy to be instrumental in helping you spend your money! I think you and Dave will have the hottest 348's on either side of the pond.

Now if you get a wing please get a decent one. These wings work!

And here is the CFD data for the wing:

I can honestly say... i have no idea what that means. :D

    What's a Pin Drive?

We're going to see if Testarossa hubs will work. Worse case scenario, I'll make a table out of them.

You won't be so happy when my wife finds out it was your idea and comes looking for you!!! :D

    You forgot Andy's 348. ;)

Saw it on a Honda... it's just too "in your face" for me. It's more looks than performance for me to be honest.

Been thinking about manifolds lately. Called up to see how much Tubi manifolds cost, but they are mega money here in the UK. Nearly the price of the Le Mans engine itself. :(

Have got all the bits and will be posting them off to Simpsons. Going to drop by there week after next to have a good luck and meet the guys.

Do some research on the F40 hubs. The LM wheels are driven not by splines like the TR or a 250/330 with Boranni wheels, but by 5 sleeved pins extending from the seating face of the hub that go into matching holes in the backside of the wheel. It is these pins that transfer the torque of the engine and braking forces to the wheel.

Some of the CanAm era wheels had an inner taper that the wheel seated on to center it and some had the shaft matched to the wheel opening and relyed on the nut to center the wheel and the pins to drive it. On the LM wheels the centerlock nut was a male taper that seated in a female recess in the wheel (Bruce always gets worked up with this M / F thing...rest assured he will chime in now as he was involved in the Panzer version of this). On the TR centerlock nut (actually a bolt)...it clamps on the outside of the wheel...the wheel is the male and the bolt the female.

Using the TR setup for this will require a great deal of machining before its useable. I will take a few photos of a pin drive and post them.

English (Cooper) 'King Cobra' variant I have hanging on the wall waiting for me to have a life and restore.

I believe you will find many spares of this nature in your area and using them will save a great deal of headache. Think Ferrari parts are expensive? Wait until you start throwing aound the names Lola and McLaren and you will go water-tight....I have found this to be a very real medical condition working on these!

Really what's interesting is the device they made up to tighten a winged knock off when its set inside a 23" wide wheel and you can not get a swing at it with a hammer! A design surely inspired by what ever they were smoking at the time it was thought up...better living through chemistry I thought. Took me 6 months of looking at it in the 20 boxes of spares before I understood what its function was. Brilliant and they didnt waste any time machining up a hex nut when using the wide wheels.

ASSSSSSSS SOOOOOO!!!! The panzer version was the best ever. We worked on this setup for many years.

Front hubs were aluminum w/titanium drive pins,,,hub carrier was magnesium...one corner cost more than a 348..lol

Rear hubs were cad plated steel w/titanium drive pins in an aluminum hub carrier.

You will develope a hate for center locks when you have to carry the torque wrench around....mine had a 6' extension bar which I had to put all my weight on to get it to proper torque spec.

And you'll really hate them when you are leading a 24hr race at the 22hr mark and the car comes in for a tire change and one of the nuts seize on the hub....happened more than once.

yada yada yada......air was much cheaper, plus when the car made a pit stop I didn't have to waste precious time topping off the coolant tank. Ooops, forgot about the time we ran coolant to the brake rotors..lol

Thanks for all teh info regarding the wheels.

Having had a long think about it, I've decided not to put them on. Will probably end up selling them now.

As for the engine, should be all ready and delivered to me early next week. Thenn we start playing around with the electronics.
