Nope, different owner. Was taken at the end of La Dolce Vita, headed straight over from Concorso to see if there was anything still going on @ LDV.

Wow, amazing. Wish the regular F40 sounded like that!

    Joe,

How are you? It would not just take a special exhaust to make that sound. What's a full LM convesrion run in this bad economy?

    Geno:

If you must convert an F40 into an F40 LM, I reccomend:

    Michelotto Automobili
    www.michelottoautomobili.it
    Michelotto G&C
    Via Chiesanuova 27
    35136 Padova, Italy
    (39) 049 871 3811
    [email protected]

Try them for a quote. They made the original F40LMs for Ferrari SpA, including the car in the video you're listening to/watching, and they are peerless when it comes to the F40LM.

Great sound, but I was surprised how slow the down shifts were. I can't believe the Michelotto dog boxes are really that slow. Perhaps Jacques was just being extra gentle with a borrowed car?

When Laffite drove the car at Mas du Clos track, it had been stored at Pozzi for several years without running. This is why the gearbox and clutch didn't run very well...

    Hi Joe

Certainly with Michelotto you get the real deal, but at what price?

I've decided to go the other route (ie do it ourselves) with my conversion, having recently acquired a good cache of Michelotto LM spare parts which were held for #79891. Simpson Motorsport who race and prepare several full race F40's in UK/Europe will be doing some jobs and sharing their experience.

(I'm still planning to make provision to fit a twin turbo 430 engine and Ricardo transaxle in such a way that the car should be changeable relatively easily between the LM and 'mad' specs.)

I will post as the project progresses.

    Regards
    Will

That, plus he was being pretty easy on the gearbox.

I believe that Cyril: even though it sounded very raw & exciting, if you listened to the soundtrack carefully, the engine sounded very rough, he was struggling to keep revs up on off-throttle sections, and power delivery did not sound smooth.

In some sections of the tape, you can clearly see him struggling to engage certain gears. I would not say he was being easy on the 'box, but rather just being careful. That was a car that needed a tune, I think.

I wish he would have taken it for a spin after it was tuned and sorted out after sitting so long. As good as that video is, imagine if he had done it with the car being sorted and tuned!

Exactly what I have always thought..the Lafitte video, he spends so much time 'fishing' for the gears and the engine revs so roughly, like the plugs are fouled, ect.
The car really did need sorting and I'm sure a F1 pilote would have done a much stonger job if the equipment was up to it.
Any F40LM clips on the track, Nordschliefe for example, where the car is 9-10/tenths??
No matter how sophisticated the newer Ferrari's are and as quick, the F40 has that extra something, the raw, brute energy, that singles it out as one of the greatest Ferraris of all time, imho..

I can't find it, but there was a YouTube video of a F40 LM at Monza if I recall going FULL TILT. Sounded even better then the Lafitte one believe it or not. Was recorded circa 1989. Wish I could find it....
