I might be interested, if not driving myself we could do several instruction days out at MSR. I will also share my race mechanic who is unbelievably talented, hard worker, and cheap considering he is retired.

Sure, now you guys want in, after I've left town - sort of...

If you're serious about this, you should come down to Houston next weekend and check out that race...

plenty of cars available and lots of time to get ready, who knows, I may have a race-ready and proven LeMon available in a couple of weeks...

Sponsorship spots still available on the Lemoncello Racing Wag-O-Van, Hospitality Motorcoach, and uniforms...got any FChat stickers, Rob?

    Hmmm.....

I'm in for a piece of this, but won't be able to drive. I can provide moral support, or crew grunt work! I'll even sponsor. I get the trunk lid to paint as I see fit! :)

Not if they are used to hold the car together.
Or use them all as a "wrap"

Would this qualify? I can buy this Opel GT for $500 for both the car and a parts car. The parts car has an engine that runs.

The car has a roll cage built from seamless .095 1.5" stock.

I have actually seen this car in person. I even sent tillman a picture months ago as a possible lemons car, but it was gone the next week when I drove back through ballinger.

It looks very very ratty but when I looked inside, it appeared structurally sound, and has a full roll cage already.

If I bought it this weekend, does anyone have a place we can store it and the donor car?

Do either of them have windshields, that may be required. Otherwise how much are parts for these?

Great question, the one pictured does not but the donor car may. Will have to check the rulebook to see if it spec's an intact factory windshield, or what type of replacements are allowed.

I think it will look too "fast". You will have iron filings poured into your engine if it even whiffs at another car.
I have always liked the Opel GTs, just 'cause they look like a baby corvette.

I like the Opel, there was one at the past event in Houston as well as the one in February - I think it had a V6 in Feb. - they said it was faster with the 4 cyl...

There's cheap shop space up at Eagles Canyon...

    Thanks for your message, Stew.

I negotiated over the phone with the guy for an all inclusive price well under $500.00, and made an appointment to go see it in Ballinger tomorrow (Short drive from where I am.)

But I just reviewed the regulations:

If my notes are correct, the rollcage inside is 1.5" tubing. Unfortunately the rules call for 1.75" tubing. Crap. I'll still go look at the car and measure for myself. Would be nice to buy a car with a professionally built rollcage already installed, the guy has reciepts and told me the name of the shop but I can't recall offhand who built it. Apparently a well known name in this area.

I think StewF is always looking for drivers to fill the seat of DSB.

Word to the wise....do not clean the engine bay, you can get penalized for looking too "new".

Opel parts aren't cheap. The V-6 was the 3.8 liter Buick motor. No HP but handy torque. The 4 banger is of course...lighter.

I appreciate the offer guys but I'm Dirty SomeBeaches all day long. Team Lemoncello is my home team.

I will shake your hand, but I will run you off the track and make it look like your car had technical issues. :)

How about a running, driving Biturbo coupe? Cisco here at the shop has one he wants to sell for $500 with no title. Both of the turbos are bad, but this is a good thing as it won't blow a head gasket!

I like "Scuderia Ignorante", and a housepaint roller Challenge Stradale stripe is a requirement...

Hmmm, posted by the Grand Poobah on their forums:

I wonder if Fchat has the connections to make this happen, at a net cost of $500?

A Bi-turbo fits the image of a Scuderia team. If the bearings on the turbos are shot it may be a cheap re-build.
However being a Maserati; Spidey Sense detects "iron shavings in the oil" bit.

Bought a car for the LeMons race today.

I went to go look at the Opel GT in Ballinger and passed on it, mostly because the motor was out of the car in pieces and the rollcage would have had to be redone completely.

I was about to leave the seller asked more details about the race specs and $500 non-safety cost limit. When I told him the rules he said "why don't you take a look at this Triumph Spitfire I'm trying to sell?"

Turns out the Triumph was taken completely apart some years ago by a retired fella, who only completed one part of the restoration: a totally fresh and completed engine with all accessories and plumbing. And then the poor fella died.

Current owner never got the title, just the rolling chassis, engine, and boxes full of parts. He bought it with intention of building a mini-stock dirt track car for his daughter, as he had built the Opel mini-stock for her. But the local rdirt track closed, and the seller has plenty of taken-apart potential track cars in his yard, so he sold me the Triumph with all the boxes of parts for $250.00, which was his opening offer. A pretty square deal IMO.

Interestingly, the Spitfire's body was designed by Italian panel beater Michelotti.
