Where is all the support for the team?

You're right, there aren't too many Tifosi here, and I try not to take it too much to heart. Some people just like to press your buttons, Ciao

 

this is an amazing thread. reminds me of a bunch of pre-teen girls arguing about who is a bigger fan of 'x' boy-band...WHAT-EV-ER... pahd up pup pup pah...i'm lovin' it... now if only they'd bring the McRib back right NOW, this thread would be even more delicious...

 

I can say that I consider F1 to be THE ultimate racing series with the best drivers in the best cars developed by the worlds best manufacturers. Of these manufacturers, Ferrari is absolutely my team. My ownership of a Ferrari has everything to do with the racing heritage of the marque. That said, I don't consider myself a true Tifosi because I am more than willing to criticize the team's mistakes. I'm absolutely a critic of the way LDM went for a wholesale change of the team without realizing that his lap dog (Domenicali) may not have the intangibles of the likes of Todt and Brawn to get the job done. I didn't like the way Schumacher was shuffled out either. I believe cheating IS part of F1 and teams' drive for competitive advantages. My issues with Alonso center around being a primadonna snitch more than carrying out 'team orders'. I also admire other drivers who don't pilot the red car for their immense talents.

I'm fine with my status as a non-Tifosiesque Ferrari fan. I'll continue to watch and root for my team regardless of whether or not folks consider me a 'real' fan. It won't change my feelings for the marque, it's history or my loyalty to the team. However, I'll still criticize when I see things I don't like.

Hard to believe that a Spanish dude with a closet full of Renault team gear has the nerve to ask if I know what "Tifosi" plural or singular "Tifoso" means, please.

I think I understand why it is that these boards don't have many Tifosi, people think that because they own a Ferrari they can put on their Scuderia hat on race day and that's all there is to it. I'm glad Phil started this thread because it's shown me that what we have here are predominantly casual fans of Ferrari. Like I said, "Ferrari lite chat "

Are there any true Ferrari fans out there ? And I mean the kind that bleed Glasurit FER 300. ? Please don't tell me you support the team but then you'll say you hope Kimi will come back in a Mclaren next year and kick Ferrari's @$$ . Where are the fans that won't whine about managements decisions and just hope that next year Ferrari's will absolutely trounce Lewis and Kimi ??? I really don't think there are any more here, just ones that want to think they are, but hey, I'm asking, where are you ?

Here's to hoping that Massa and Alonso will kick the crap out of Kimi, Lewis, Vettel ect ect.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree. I have never owned any Renault team gear. You shouldn't take seriously everything that's posted here. And I have never supported Alonso while he was at Renault. I have prayed daily that he would one day drive for Ferrari, precisely to be able to support him. My prayers have now been answered.

My father won the Venezuela Grand Prix (2000 cc category) in 1957 driving his 500 TRC, and arrived second in the same category at the Sweden GP the same year. I have breathed Ferrari since I was born. I am very lucky to own three Ferraris (real ones), and a Dino. Two of the Ferraris belonged to my father. I still have the Ferrari pin given to me by Olivier Gendebien when I was 7 years old (no, it's not for sale). I could tell you many, many more things about Ferrari in my life.

And yes, I do have the nerve (in abundance!) to ask people here (the comment was not directed at you individually) if they know what Tifoso means.

Great post, except for the first sentence, which I will not hold against you. In fact, I sincerely like your post so much that I will tell you what tifoso means:

A tifoso is originally a person ill with a mortal disease called tifo in Italian (typhus in English?). People affected with typhus used to shake and jump and scream without control as the infection progressed in their bodies, ultimately killing them.

The term was applied by analogy to a special kind of sports fans, or more particularly Ferrari fan, who as a spectator exhibits the same behaviour as a person ill with typhus: Irrationality (support no matter what), and physical exuberance with plenty of yelling and jumping up and down. Precisely the behaviour I show when the red car passes the finish line in first position.

I hope that was clear.

Sorry Julio, just taking a stab at what seemed to be a logical assumption. You had me confused when you asked about the definition of Tifoso, which I clearly understand, but never knew the origins of the term, how appropriate !!!


Fantastic Ferrari Family background, I think you should be the official leader of the F chat Tifosi. Maybe some day we could have a "Tifosi lounge" section on F chat where we can discuss the sport without being harassed by people posting pictures of sheep or references to red blinkers,

Interesting thread. I guess I am a true Tifosi; I don't care who drives the scarlet cars, I'm going to be pulling for them. I was really sad to see Michael go, for obvious reasons. But they brought Kimi in and, though he was once a Mclaren driver and, thus, the mortal enemy, I rooted for him and Masa. Next year, if Kimi goes back to Mclaren, he will agin be the enemy and Fernando will be the new subject of my "devotion". Again, along with Masa.

I can understand the fan base for a certain driver, especially in Europe and such where the driver is often a figure of national pride. But here in the U.S., backing the TEAM and, accordingly, the cars, seems to make much more sense, and makes even more sense when one considers that there are not, nor have there been, any good U.S. F1 drivers since Mario.

With all due respect, Chris, I don't think this necessarily describes the majority of people on this site. I think anyone who switches allegiances absolutely describes a bandwagon, casual fan. I think most people (not all) who post in this section are certainly fans of Ferrari. What I have learned on internet boards is that you generally have groupings of fans: die-hard, team-can-do-no-wrong fans; pessimistic, team-can-do-no-right fans (unless they win every event); and middle-of-the-roaders who celebrate success but will rant about bad decisions and moves. You'll find the same formula among every fan base. I don't think not being the first type of fan leads to automatic revocation of your Tifosi-card though. People will root for who they like in their own way.

While I know Alonso is (rightfully) a polarizing driver, I doubt more than very few on this site will be 'rooting for Lewis, Vettel and Kimi to trounce Alonso & Massa'. There may be some buzzing of discontent, but at the end of the day I think everyone wants to see the Scuderia on the top of the podium.

Thanks for all the welcomes and replies to this thread (which has highlighted how quickly the infighting starts around here!).

One thing I have realised straight away is not to post replies immediately but to think things through first (heat of the moment and all that), and how easy it is to misinterpret what others have written, so i shall try to be careful.

I appreciate that there are several levels of Tifosi on this site and in life, from the extreme diehards to the casual fans who follow the team because their favourite driver is there at the time. (I fall into the catergory of extreme diehards who can accept that the team is not always right or infallable, so probably one level from the top. Because of this I know that some on here will not like My opinion but I hope they will realise that it's nothing personal, as Swayze said in Roadhouse "Opinions vary!" ).

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome and as You guys would say Stateside: "Y'all have a nice day now!".
