Perhaps if enough people complained to them via the official Ferrari site they may take this under consideration the next time they choose a manifacture for there products. But if people keep buying the "crap" and no one complains to them, why change?

    Cheers!

Funny posts in this thread, but seriously Ferrari has started licensing anything and everything. I doubt there is hardly any quality control to test the products before agreeing on the contract. However, I bet going forward they start paying closer attention.

We need Ferrari branded bras and bikinis. Coming off? No problem. No Speedos though, considering propensity for Italian men to wear them.

Those mugs are keeping with factory quality from days of old; they must be finished in the Glidden paint from the late 70s/early 80s, or maybe lacquer from prior; certainly not Glasurit urethane! :D

    1 - It sells.
2 - I guess if it gets damaged quickly they think you'll buy more.

    Sad to see this.

On the contrary. Not sure about you, but I tend not to be a repeat customer of junk.
    Be it cars, mugs, whatever.

I must sheepishly admit I bought an "official Fila/Ferrari" belt at a CART race (lost weight/pants were falling down!). Naturally, it's made of fine Chinese naugha and exotic plastics, making a hideous squeak when the wearer walks...

Ferrari's licensing makes up a HUGE percentage of their total profits now. Despite the tarnishing it does to their brand, I fear we won't be seeing this crap go away soon.

Too bad you can't run the actual car through the car wash twice a week for 10 years and expect it to still look like new.:D

Why buy anything with the Ferrari name that's not a car? Never understood the appeal of all the licensed gear, mugs, banners (unless you're going to be waving it during an F1 race, of course), shirts, jackets, caps, etc.. It's the actual automobiles, not simply the name or emblem, that are so special.

Here's what to do... peel off the remainder of the flaking paint so that it's a bare stainless steel mug. Then procure a Ferrari nose badge or keychain and glue it to the mug with epoxy resin. Problem solved.

I used to glue crash-damaged RC cars back together with epoxy and they never broke in the same place twice on the next crash. ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Can't you see that this is to keep the licensed products as similar as possible to the actual cars.
Wouldn't expect that mug to be as well built and maintenance free as a regular mug would you?

When Ferrari's cars break down in the first year all the time, it makes me wonder why people would be surprised about a faulty mug.

Buy a Lamborghini mug next time. More beautiful and reliable. You can use it daily if you like without having to worry about the handle falling off. Maybe it doesn't have the rich coffee drinking history behind it but the coffee sure tastes better in it.

Old data from '06, but what I found fast.
'08 full report is somewhere on hard drive, but here is gist:"Ferrari’s 2008 balance sheet and annual report revealed the company to be in rude health despite the current economic turmoil, with the key Return on Sales profitability figure rising to 17.6%. Actual revenue grew 15.2% to 1.9 billion euro, with most of the additional growth coming from Brand-related activities (licensing, retail and ecommerce)."

    2006 annual report synopsis:
The Ferrari S.p.A. Board of Directors, chaired by Luca di Montezemolo, met today to review the balance sheet for the financial year ended 31st December 2006.

Ferrari’s three main areas of business – road cars, competition cars and brand development – yielded a significant increase in revenues from €1,289 million in 2005 to €1,447 million in 2006, a leap of 12.2% due in great part to brilliant sales of the F430 and the 612 Scaglietti as well as the immediate success of the new 599 GTB Fiorano which was unveiled only at the start of last summer.

Ferrari’s trading profit of €183 million showed a significant leap of 16.4% over the previous financial year and can be attributed principally to the rise in sales revenues and to efficiency gains which were partially offset by increased investment in research and development.

Ferrari recorded a positive net financial position also, with a balance of €213 million, a dramatic improvement on 2005’s figure of €13 million.

Deliveries of road cars (i.e. non-track cars) to their owners stood at 5,671, 4.8% up on 2005. Impressive sales in North America and Switzerland (+6%), Germany (+8%), and new or developing markets, such as the Middle East and Asia Pacific area (+15%), all made important contributions to this improvement. In all 121 Ferraris – almost double the figure of 2005 - were delivered in China where there is now a 12-strong dealership network spread across the most important areas of the country.

A total of €232 million was assigned for Investments and Research and Development (not including Formula 1). This is a 6% increase on 2005 and the equivalent of 16% of the company’s turnover. The investments concerned, amongst other matters, the new 599 GTB Fiorano and the development of future models.

Last but not least, Ferrari’s brand development activities continued to yield double figure growth, rising an impressive 23% in 2006’s turnover, thanks both to the granting of new licensing contracts and the expansion of its retail programme (there are now a total of 13 Ferrari Shops and Stores throughout the world).

What's additional growth? How much of that 15,2% revenue growth is primary or initial growth and how much is additional growth? I guess they mean that most of the 15,2% is due to branding but this isn't worded very precisely, so I'm not 100% sure...

I got this bad mother in Milan over 2 years ago at the ferrari store, (paid like 25 euro's) mainly because they have a Shumi F1 car that you could sit in and take pictures of you in it if you bought over 50euro's worth of stuff.

I thought it would have broken along time ago but its still going strong.

I hope you enjoyed my story.
