Interior is very cool Trying to figure out who the demographic is... at $300k thats the 599's realm. i cant imagine anyone would buy this over a 599 so we must be talking about people who are so wealthy they buy pretty much anything and everything that they fancy. Im also thinking the younger mega-wealthy who grew up with japanese sports cars would dig this.
At half of the projected price it could be an interesting alternative to some cars in the same performance bracket. As it is now,it only highlights incredible arrogance of Toyota's management when pricing this car (with absolute ZERO pedigree) at a level higher then not only the superior to it 458 or new Mclaren but also even higher then the 599. I want to know what kind of drugs are they on.
You need to have a good reason to spend that much on that car when you look at the alternatives. 599, DBS, LP640, 430 Scuderia, Carrera GT!! I could get the price if it had 700 hp, something revolutionary and an exotic brand... But still the new 1250 kg McLaren F1 with 600 hp and many innovative solutions (compared with the other cars in its price range) will be around 275000 USD! Come on Lexus, this is a 200k car, tops... It better be unbelievably good to drive! But how they can make it better than current Ferraris, I don't know... Edit: The price should have been around Audi R8 V10 or 911 Turbo... They would probably sell ten times as many then... Look at the R8, great mini success...
here are some pictures on the real world http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Lexus-LF-A/244227/
Looks like a gussied up, body kitted GT-R to me. Not a fan of the front end of the vehicle in the least. Oh well, my dealership will never see one to begin with.
if total production is limited to 500 units, they might sell them. In a compettiive environment going for sales against Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes AMG, McLaren, Audi, Bentley, and Aston Martin (at least), the price tag is ridiculous. The only upstart in this segemnt that has me really intrigued is the McLaren MP4-12C.
I really don't get it. A 458 or McLaren 12 will probably have it licked, I wonder how much faster than a GT-R it will really be...and then that price...wohooo.... Maybe that's the Alfa 8c effect (way overpriced, old tech etc) - you could also call it an Aston Martin effect, which is another way to insulate the car from its natural competition by pricing it much higher, but then again, that's not exactly what one could expect from a company like Toyota.
Yes! Very cool next-gen iteration. But I figured the car would cost 75-100k. When I read the price I about fell out of my chair. 300k? Ha. Funny. That's just funny.
I think the reasoning behind Lexus and their price tag is how much R&D had to go into the car. Ferrari has had many years building fast cars but Lexus has always been aimed at the luxury crowd so with the LFA they've needed to design and build msot everything from scratch. I have a feeling the car is going to mainly be a "feeler" car to see if they get anyone intersted in a performance-based Lexus. But that's just my opinion
I think the point of the LF-A is that it's a technological showcase. It's TMC showing the world what they can do. They're only building 500, making it more exclusive than modern Ferraris/Lambos/etc. Yeah the price is ridiculous and even then they are expecting to sell at a loss, so I guess the price is just to recoup some of their losses to be able to produce the LF-A.
here's a test drive video http://www.apexrally.com/2009/10/lexus-lf-test-drive.html not sure about the looks yet but it sounds great
It's not as exclusive as the 16M or LP670-SV. I really don't see Lexus selling too many of these at all.
I would say the LFA is more exclusive, in the end the 16M is a F430 Spider with tweaks and the LP670-SV is a Murcielago with tweaks... And the LFA is a brand new car from scratch...
I thought the nose had some cues that looked like an homage to the Supra, but sharpened up. I think they'll sell 500 of these. There are enough fans and Japan still has some money. What I think is smart is they didn't overproject like Porsche and MB did with the CGT and SLR, saying like 50,000 units at $450k. And then cancel the run early.
I have been to Japan many times and though this car is undoubtedly a technical achievement, there's no way to justify the price. I also agree it is similar to the new Nissan supercar in looks and should be priced closer to that. The reason Ferrari can charge so much for a 458 is tradition-engineering-tradition-styling--tradition. They have earned the right to charge what they want and enthusiasts will pay it. I don't recall Lexus cars winning any Grand Priss lately or even LeMans (which Audi has done four times). So it is only because of the insular view that Toyota executives have thet they think they can fetch this price. I predict it will depreciate faster than any "exotic" car though, despite its' technological superiority over some, doesn't qualify for the description "exotic."
IIRC they were originally saying price was going to be $120-150, I guess they blew that by a long shot.
