Just finished. Lots of problems found and solved along with the 30k service: cracked front control arm, 02 sensors, speed sensor, sticking throttle body, soggy cat ecu, multitude of leaks, heads, valves and pistons machined, new valve guides and seals, repacked flywheel, clutch discs resurfaced, balanced and machined, a couple of old hoses replaced, one torn cv boot replaced, all new filters, water pump rebuild kit, cam cover splash guards added (were missing), all clutch seals including leaking triple seal, readjusted tubi exhaust for better fit into the high flow cats, engine bay detailed, cleaned and painted. Phew. 6 weeks at the end. Thanks to nicksforzaferrari and Ricambi for the rapid service and skilled support. A couple of the before and after shots. Oh my. And does she sound ever so sweet: a little husky low end and a screaming top followed by a throaty burble on lift off.
I forgot to ask. What happend to your front control arm?? Where was it cracked? Have you any pics of it? I wonder if its an issue with our cars and no one has noticed it before? How did you know it was cracked?? Did they pick it up in a service or something?? Or you had issues with handling in the front end?
Are those factory headers? What year is your car? *** edit. That's a 348 engine. Interesting that you needed valve guides.... love it...
+1 ........... the 360, 550 and possibly some others have been known to also 'need' valve guides ........ the 360, 430 and ??? have gone through some headers as well ........... it is not strictly 355s .............
Yes Sir. I have personally seen at least 3 348s in my local shop for new valve guides in the last 12 months. Seems like the 348 owners have one less thing to bash 355s about... As for the 360s, wait till those pre cats break down and start getting sucked into the cylinders. sorry for the hijack BTW. It looks like they did a great job on your motor.
+355 ........... ................ there are actually owners who think only 355s have issues .............. but they just hate the 355 because its beautiful ............... +1 .......... whoever doesn't believe it, needs to get out more ........
But in all honesty, it must be around fifty ****ed 355 valve guides to one set of ****ed 348 valve guides!
All 8 cylinders are 200 +/- 1. We couldn't believe it! I was hoping for <180. The front control are had bent just at the elbow out of the front bushing/flamblock. At the deepest part of the "bend", it had cracked. Claudio was doing a quick eyeball on all parts of the car (even though he was only going to be working on the engine: good man). He noticed it right away. The car had been aligned with the bend in it so I had not noticed it and had not seen it when changing pads. I don't have a photo but I have attached the parts diagram with red line showing where the crack was. The bend (bent inward like a valley) and crack started on the top surface roughly where the red line starts and then went over the edge down the side to the seam. We surmised that it had taken a severe whack over a pothole or something. There was no other damage or signs of repair anywhere else. It had been there for a long time since rust had started on the edges of the crack: yikes! Image Unavailable, Please Login
