So November 1st a minor yacht will pass under The Great Belt Link. I plan on going and take a few pictures. It's going to be interesting to see if Oasis of the Seas will fit
This past summer I went on a cruise on the freedom of the seas and was in disbelief of the size. I cant imagine what the oasis class is like.
I'll post some pics here, unless it is all raining away Only pics from land, I won't be able to get on the ship *LOL*
It's heading here to it's new home in Ft. lauderdale. Once it's here, the 17th street causway should have a great view...
A newspaper here say 7565 people is what the ship will hold, both crew and passengers. I HOPE the sistership will pass in daylight.
Just got home. This was difficult. More difficult than I imagined. Not only was it dark, the damn boat was also more than 2½ hour delayed, so it went under after 12am, and then I had a 100km drive back home. Anyway, a few pics, but not very good, seriously! Not enough ISO, or not enough light if you prefer I hope some of the prophotographers that were there have nailed some better pics Image Unavailable, Please Login
Much better pics here http://www.bt.dk/nyheder/verdens-stoerste-krydstogtsskib-under-broen Not by me though *LOL*
Impressive footage from the ship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njOHaQ7V0j4 Dude got the wrong bridge This was NOT the bridge between Sweden and Denmark. It's the Great Belt Link, bridge between two Danish islands. And from land http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc3hnAKeKOc
great pics. read a news report that said the smoke stacks lower (hydraulics IIRC), and it still only cleared the bridge by 2 ft. And I'm sure they did it at low / near low tide.
That is true. They build them with hydraulics so they could be lowered to get under the bridge. Ship is 72 meter tall, underside of the bridge is 65 meter tall. So in order to go under the bridge, they had to lower the smoke stacks, go through at low tide anddo it at full speed, which also lower the ship in the water. Check out the video above taken on the ship, it show how close it was. My question is, what do you have to do to get on a ship for such a trip?? I would kinda like getting on Allure of the Seas next year when that one have to pass I am afraid it is too pricey though.
I believe that initial voyage is for media, travel agents, executives, and such. Also it's part of the 'shakedown', and to train crew to get ready for paying customers. It supposed to be christened 11/30. However, maybe you'll get lucky and RCCL will see your pictures and send you an invite for Allure OTS....
