Probably needs a tranny as well. There was just one on Ebay too ... I wonder where the engine went. Such a shame ... What's under that tan paint on the lower part of the body? Notorious rust areas on these cars.
I managed to track down a wooden steering wheel and was going to fit in place of my worn leather one on my S3. On the S3 there is a steering colum boss behind the wheel which doesnt appear to be necessary or fitted on a S2. the net result would be the wheel would be about 2'' or 9mm further away from the driver in a car where the wheel is already too far away! Did the S2 have some form of boss or extender? I only have the wheel and central cover Don't have access to a S2 to check the differences Posted a request for help before about the relay that is used to park and facilitate intermittent wipe. Anyone know where these can be got from? Thanks in advance Paul xx
Have you looked at the parts manual yet? They're not always all that helpful but sometimes it helps. As I understand it the S3 wheel is smaller in diameter and deeper as well. So the earlier style wheel could indeed end up further away but I don't know about the spacer thing. You will notice the reduced wheel clearance to the tops of you thighs. It's tight on me in an S2. I'm 6ft with long legs.
Peter, I would not buy it, unless you want to keep it as-is. If you buy a replacement motor, you will be financially upside down in little time. You should be able to find a perfect Espada in the U.S., for the hi 20's to the low 30's. The S1 dash is really kewl !
I think that range might be optomistic for a perfect one or even a good one with a S1 being perhaps even more. I agree that financially speaking this car is not a candidate for bringing back to original. What's a S1 interior cost to redo? The dash alone must be quite something. Bob S.
The price range I gave, is for a real nice car in the U.S. I will correct myself. It should NOT be a perfect car, at around the hi 20's to the low 30's. You have price exceptions to every "rule". A show car (perfect car) will cost more money. Most Espada autos, are not show cars. Yes, the S1 should bring some more money.
Ralf has good points it would make more sense financially to buy a good espada this could be a fun car as is, or a fun project for some guys...but also one of the worst nightmare for others!
Here is a Series 1 I saw this month near Chicago owned by a fellow fchatter. Very nice condition. Also a old photo at a European race in the 1970's. I can't remember where I found the photo, but its not a Swiss race, thats for sure Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo-Strictly 43rd Revival-Chicago April 2010 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Two and a half years ago I purchased my Espada. I spent a year looking and I found nothing under $30K that would qualify as a real nice car. They've gone up since then and like all the others most probably back down some. At that time I could find plenty of them in the high 20s to low 30s and most said "I need a lot of work" whereas the ones like that at Gullwing Motors said "run Forest run!". Short of paying what I though was stupid money at that time for a car with 16K miles that had not been used for some time I bought the best one I could find and it still needed work. Even with low mileage old cars just tend to fall apart. I think it's very difficult to find what's truly a "real nice Espada". It's pretty rare that owners have maintained them well so a new owner will probably inherit the deferred maintenance. So ... yah gotta really want one. Right Gary (a.k.a DOC)? ;>) Bob S.
Hello, I am almost sure that this picture is taken in Sweden, i get that feeling, maybe Denmark or Norway also, but not in southern Europe anyway
I am amost sure also. I think the colors look almost like a GTAM raced in Sweden back in the mid 1970's. I forget the sponsor(Medley's??). Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo-Strictly 43rd Revival 2010 model/photo contest-Chicago April 2010
True The problem is also common with other cars, that require regular expensive service costs to maintain, yet do not bring all that much money at the time of sale or purchase. If the maintenance is deferred or up-to-date, the sales price will probably be about the same, on a nice car. A few years ago, a long time owner on the VLG board, spoke about having to give away his Jarama, with 60K worth of maintenance receipts for 17K. The trick is to find a nice car. Jarama Ferrari 2+2 autos GTC/4 Testarossa Indy etc...
We all want one of those cars but you can't easily go out and find one in the range you specified unless you already know of a car that's coming up for sale. It happens, just not easily or all that often. If I'm shopping I know I'm willing to pay more for a car that's been maintained but let's face facts, these cars are not in great demand. So prices are more depressed. But who knows, Isleros weren't in demand a couple of years ago either. Bob S.
for love not money!!! a word of warning or not depending on your passions... some might say that spending 90k to get an Espada and make it just right is nuts ! Conversely if your me and ya dont give a crap who says what and you want classic webers V12 italian symphony all wrapped up in a sexy steel box , what else is out there for that cash? ferrari 365s maybe. the end price is whatever you want it to be and then if ya want it nice and right... well keep counting. Everyone who reads this forum Im sure understands there are more important things than money. What a great hobby ! The people buying these and fixing them are to be commended. This is alot of work ( i had no idea really )and endless hours on the internet dealing with goofs who say you owe them euros or dollars long after the transaction takes place . You know who you are . Having guys mail you the wrong parts knowing your half way around the world! you know who you are. having guys tell you " you'll never find that part!! " I did by the way ! In spite of all these goofs ( PS. buy everything you need from Jacques at Maserati source and Gary B ! real gentleman!!)Do what you want and preserve the history and glory that is Italian cars. Or ***** out and buy a new orange CUDA and hope someone cares. No more complaints about Espada values anymore . We will all be eating our words in 10 years. caio Gary
Hi Gary, I think what Ralf was proposing was that one should get one that's already been "loved up" just as you suggest, the owner needs or wants to sell and hope that it's priced in the mid 20's to low 30's. I know that I didn't find that situation and my car was pretty nice. So how did you do? ;>)) People will probably continue to low ball Espadas but I didn't buy it as a car I thought would appreciate to any great degree. I looked at Isleros at the same time and they were 7-10K more back then. But I didn't see one I really wanted. I knew at the time that they were probably next to make a jump. They are very nice looking cars but they just don't do it for me. BTW, Are you finally settled on the guy to do the work we talked about? Bob S.
Bob like I eluded to, to get my car right I need to spend another 60 over what i got it for believe it or not. I am not discouraged but i will say if i knew then what i do now..... I did find the guy(good guys) just north of me who are just about done on the engine . Full gasket set, machine heads , new valves , seals , guides , points , wires, rebuilt carbs and water pump, pull rad , investigate etc....also about 3k worth of cosmetic parts missing and since obtained. I'll as soon as i get somepost some pics Gary
Totally agree with Gary. For me it's a matter of love with these cars. Every time I take off the car cover, prime the webers and go for a ride reving that V12, it's Living. I'm pretty sure I put more $ (and there is always to put in, no matter what) in my car than it's value on today's market but I just don't care. I love all vintages Lamborghinis but for me the Espada (and Miura) are the best they made in these days (in concept, design and aesthetic, they were not the highest volume selling cars for nothing). Few people realize that the Espada was then the top of the line of the Lamborghini fleet, the most usable, sophisticated and expensive. Even if the 350s, 400s, Isleros, Jaramas are worth more, I still prefer my Espada (I mean, look at this line!), only a Miura can top that.. Gary, the song goes "only fools fall in love "..!..can't wait to see the finished product so we can hopefully go for a 'proper' drive this year before the snow comes along
Jaramas are now worth more than Espadas? How can that be? They're not even in the same league when it comes to asthetics. Of course a LM002 is usually worth more ... Go figure? Bob S.
