No, only 16 or 18 where race versions. The rest were street. As part of the purchase price, the owners of the race versions had the option to convert them to street versions after the race series. Based on what I have seen, very few took up the option.

That interior pic looks like it's a center position driver. I thought the same thing when i first saw it.

my understanding was that they were built for the race series, were a very nervous car with many areas that could best be said as poor build quality.

Yes, it they were produced for a one make race series of 3 races. Winner of the last race took home $1 million. Build quality is very good. Issue is that the cars were never fully developed.

Did you ever get a ride or drive in it, what where your impressions? I always liked them but then as you know im a sucker for the unusual: Vector, Cizeta, XJR15 etc.

Issue with the #01 car again is that it has a 6 speed non-syncro gear box. Fine for the track but unuseable on the street. Price is also twice what they are over in Europe.

To spend 250k on the XJR15, you need to be a true enthusiast with a shedload of dosh. The car does have handling issues as its so damn powerful and from what i gather just isnt set up correctly, who knows. For a personal track car, Im sure itll be fast and damn good fun.

For 250k, Id have something else though.

Checked youtube for Clarkson crashing it into the camera car but i couldnt find it, interesting clip I remember. Not as funny as Tiff Needell nearly writing off a Mclaren F1 on a country road though!

Prices right now over in Europe are about half that.

Agree, it does need to be set up properly.

I remember when Clarkson muttered "What an utter disappointment - it's like being out on a date with Daryll Hannah and finding out she's a vegetarian."

Said it was the worst handling car ever (never mind it was also wet out that day). I have a 1/5 scale model of the XJR in my office, always loved the looks of this car. Someone bought up the body moulds and was going to produce street versions for 1/4 the cost with emissions legal motors. Still hasn't hit yet...

In all the XJR-15 videos i've seen, the engine and especially the no-synched gearbox are extremely noisy....look at this BEst Motoring's F40 vs XJR-15 for example.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4yo_n2k8cc

It's more noisy than an F40!

Wasn't that Martin Brundle? I assume you think of the drive in the slippery and rainy conditions??

No, it was Clarkson and it is off one of his DVDs on Supercars. About 10 years old now.

I'd have one of those over a 220 anyday; it has the right engine, and the right heritage.

Also, parts are not a problem, if maybe somewhat expensive, but we're used to that in exotiland. Although the original builders of the car don't exist anymore (TWR), the rights and tooling, as well as a lot of parts were bought by a gent in the UK with view to provide parts to existing car owners and eventually new cars to those who could be interested. This info stems from a couple of months after the TWR-auction, so I don't know how relevant it still is.

The gent can be traced via jag-lovers.com, do a search in the V-12 engine section for sliding throttles, I remember he chimed in there offering a couple of sets that came out of the TWR bankrupcy. I am sure he can help with a lot more info on these cars as well.
I lost his e-mail, so can't help any more than this.
