I would lose a great deal of respect for Kimi if he simply walks away from F1 in 2010 simply because he can't get another excessively lucrative contract. One would hope love of the sport would inspire him to settle for perhaps a puny $25 million contract with McLaren? He's already got another $20 million coming for nothing at all. If he feels like $25 million isn't enough, perhaps he should retire to the bar full time, or go rallying for much, much less.

I thinking cracking a smile once per race weekend and giving some indication that he was putting in 100% every now and then would have sufficed.

Kimi is the Brett Favre of this web site!!!!!!!!! I say thanks for the memories, but it was obviously time for him to move on. In 25 years, we will look back on him as the Jody Scheckter of his era ... you know, win once and coast for a few VERY lucrative years.
I like Raikkonen, but if he goes to McLaren, Hamilton will mop the floor with his ass.

Kind of ironic that someone known as the Iceman elicits such passion:)

Since when Kimi was Number 1 at Ferrari? I think he was number 1 just a few races of the 2008 season.

    +1

Ferrari made a new chassis for the drivers somewhere in May i think, and Kimi got the new chassis first, ahead of Massa.

The car generally was difficult to drive anyways.

Two drivers with different driving styles, neither of which is showing any dominating form in the season over the other.

Coming into the Spanish GP (5th race, lightweight b-spec car introduced for Kimi):

    Massa : 0 points
Kimi : 3 points (Not exactly p*****g all over Massa)

coming into the British GP (8th race, lightweight B-spec introduced for Massa)

    Massa : 11 points
Kimi : 9 points (still not exactly dominating Massa)

How does the idiot who designed the new chassis decide which drivers style he's going to make the new car suit?. based on your statement, he's got to choose one.

At the end of the day the only real solution is to design the car to be as easy to drive and set up as possible and then it's up to the drivers to adapt to the car.

As I said before, Kimi admitted that for the first part of the season the car didn't suit his driving style and he couldn't get it to perform as he wanted. After Massa's accident, the car was then set up to suit his style and suddenly he was transformed and got better results.

After the German GP (9th race and Massa's last race of the season):

    Massa: 22 points
    Kimi :10 points

From the German GP onwards (8 races and no Massa):

Kimi scores : 38 points (making a total of 48)

Please feel free to dust yourself down from your roll on the floor and again, explain how, without one driver dominating, you choose which driver to make your car suit best as you seem to be suggesting. (and no crystal balls allowed!)

I've always liked Kimi. Seems kind of odd that he doesn't have a ride for 2010. I really didn't understand how Ferrari would pay him to sit out a year, but I guess they can afford it. Hoping to see him at McClaren or another quality team.

I'd be curious if F are having any kind of bye, bye party for him? If not then that tells you something about the relationship. I'm sure he just bolted out of there.

I'll especially miss "mumbles" at the post race driver interviews.
I predict he'll turn up after finished counting his severence pay.

I wonder if they'll even invite him for the World Finals. IMO, he should be invited. That could well be a good sending off.
