With a heat gun, some mild solvent (I think it was "Goof Off") and a trim removal tool. I heated the joint, worked some solvent in and used the trim removal tool to begin working the lense and base apart. Slow process at first, just did it over and over working my way around the circumference of the light.

Yeah it was nice talking to you Mike.

Make sure you post a thread with pics on how to take the lens off, it'll really help out those that are gonna have to tackle this in the future.

    Blimey, the shisters.

Onto a better news story. I will have 2 pairs of replacement lenses this weekend. Picking them up at our prize giving dinner tomorrow. Came 5th in end so not all bad after the start of season mishap.

I was looking for a pic of mine in happier times to show them, but cant find any anywhere that give detail. so here is a general one.

I have one left hand lamp with a cracked lens that i was going to replace and sell. Getting the old glass out is a bit of a ***, just needs hard work, sharp knifes and a small sharp chisel I found works well. they are stuck in very tightly!

These lenses by way are bullet proof, I know I fired a .22 air rifle at one from close quarters with little effect. and look very much like the originals. They don't have all the glass lines in them, but you cant have everything from a bit of plastic!

So if anyone wants a lens at £75 plus the carriage please do pm me.

Those look good. These are not exact to the original look? Do you have a close up? We are trying to recreate an exact look to OEM with ours. I am told this can be accomplished with polycarbonate or polyurethane; there are advantages to both. An aircraft glass and Lexan company are manufacturing them so I believe the quality to be excellent. Still don't know about price yet, it will depend on a few factors. I'll know in about 4-6 weeks. We are also starting tooling for polycarbonate slipcovers to fit over non-damaged lights at the same time. I tried a new home made tool that seems to work well for removal. Few more tests, but it looks good now and you don't have to push hard.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The ones I was going to have made here would have been an EXACT replica of the OEM I was told. The reflector lines in the glass and all, from a polycarbonate vacuum mold. :):)

Such a shame big dollar setup costs are involved for such a small return. :D:D

Tell me about it. Closed the deal last night so I'm in all the way. Even if they don't turn out I still am out the tooling cost. I think its worth the risk even though I may not see my investment covered for a year or two maybe more.

One wonders if Ferrari knew what they were doing when they made those glass lenses exsposed at the right height for flying rocks? :D

Excellent! I wish you all the best with this project mate! :D:D

Its not that mate. EVERY car has driving lights that low in the way of flying rocks etc..etc. :D:D

Its the fact Ferrari/supplier stopped making them for the 348, which means they soon become unobtanium which drives prices of them up. :D:D

    Again, supply and demand. :eek::eek:

You will have a GREAT alternative mate! I wish you all the best with it mate and we will all be watching this thread closely! ;);)

So I should start making those lenses, then stop. I wait for a while and then start making them again and charge double! :D:D Brilliant! Pap is handling my marketing from now on ;)

You know I hope this does turn out good. I have a few other ideas for products for the 348 and a few other models as well.

Drivers side one has a hole in it......much like a rock chip in a windshield.
I'll take one when they are rady. I believe you will have more interest than indicated in this thread when you make the first batch.
    Good luck

    Update:
Tooling for the driver’s side is almost done! I was sent a sample of the optically clear material we will be using for the lenses. It appears to be great stuff and very tough and has decent scratch resistance. I will have a driver’s side lens sample in the next two weeks and they are completing that mold now. Passenger side lenses should be done about 30-40 days from now. The lenses will have all of the line work that appears in the OEM lenses, but will not carry the OEM manufacture logo for legal reasons. There is an extra plus as well, due to the type of advanced polyurethane and process we are using, the lenses can be tinted in colors, more on that later. We will also be tooling full polycarbonate snap-over lens covers for existing glass lens protection in the next few months. Please email me questions if you have any. I will keep this thread updated as the project moves forward.

    Thanks,

    Mike
