Italia's performance is disappointing considering that its numbers are not that different from Scuderia's, and the other makers are catching up or even better.
Its horsepower should be higher. Its increase in hp over F430 is only incremental. Sure, there has been improvement in technology and there's been a continued weight loss program, but you still get a performance not much better than a Scuderia's.

did i read somewhere that the 458 has a 0-200 time quicker than ven the 599?

if thats the case, no one should complain about acceleration / performance!

Are you nuts...only an "incremental" increase in HP?? The 458 gets almost 85 hp more then the 430 and performance "only" a little better then the Scuderia?? What were you expecting...a Bugatti engine and Lotus weight for $100,000?? :) Keep on dreaming...;)

I think he has a point.

There was a lot of talk about new ideas, like KERS, the fixed driver´s position to reduce the size of the car, weight reduction, movable rear difussor, active aerodinamics, etc... But the only new idea I find in this car is the front flexible wing.

It´s faster, and getting that amount of hp from that engine, with less emissions and better fuel consumption is an achievement, but there is not really anything new in this car, and therefore we can´t talk about a quantum leap in performance. Probably they´re keeping all the new gizmos for the new Enzo.

Only disappointing thing about the new 458 Italia is that is not lighter (in fact it's even abit heavier) than a F430.

To be fair, the weight issue is annoying.

Annoying could also be the first year's teething problems. Supposedly two more DCT's from the California GT have failed in Canada. Maybe Ferrari will have the DCT sorted out before the first deliveries? And the new dash with all the different displays could pose problems.

    Jeff,

was there a post on the Canadian gearbox failures? I was the one with the bad gearbox a few weeks ago. Ferrari sent a new gearbox and replaced my bad one in 2 days. Unlikely I will ever find out what happened.

    Chad,
I'm not aware that there were any posts on FerrariChat about the gear box failures. Maybe the owners are not on FerrariChat? The reason I said "supposedly" in my post is that I got the information 2nd hand and can't confirm the failures. But the information was given to me by a Ferrari dealer so I think it's 100% correct. Both failures came from the same dealer so it shouldn't be too hard to track this down since there aren't too many dealers in Canada. It's possible that the dealer missed something in the PDI to cause the failure? Low fluids maybe? If this did happen it might mean there is nothing basically wrong with the DCT? I have a good relationship with 5 dealers and I'm always seeking information. The dealers tell me they have not had any problems with their Cali demos or customer cars. I'm keeping an eye on the DCT because I'm in line for a 458.

Thanks for the info. When the dealer checked out my car, all the fluids were full and there were no visible particles in them either. The new gearbox came from FNA in Jersey so they have some in stock (maybe precautionary) because they sent it overnight. Thanks for the info.

458 base price = $255k (est.). Scuderia base price = $280k. Compare specs and performance.... 458 seems like a better deal.

That being said, I'd gladly throw in the extra $25k to redesign the 458's Camaro/Mustang steering wheel and vents. Damn, that stuff is fugly.

Hopefully, to a dealer near me....and then very quickly to my garage. As much as I like the Italia...and admittedly that is a lot as I believe its a fantastic improvement on an already wonderful car (F430 or Scud), immediately I manned up for a deposit on this soon to be born beast as my logical next Ferrari. If it comes out as predicted, --of course I have no real portfolio to know if or when--the 599 GTO is going to be the most heralded and best modern Ferrari in many, many years. Consider approx 1500 kilos (3400 lbs), 12 cyl enzo derived motor with direct injection, super fast 2 plus additional handling/styling mods, 680 hp and even more torque--just smile boys, its going to leave a big big wake as it blows by on the motorway the likes of which haven't been for some time. Can't wait :).
