Tillman and I have both been actively looking at cars.

So far we've taken the USF1 approach to fielding a race car... Everything's on paper until 10 weeks before the grid. :)

Somebody needs to get Uncle Greggie actively involved. Not only is he a parts scrounger extraordinaire, but he has a staging area, tools and some know how, and he might be able to pilot the thing a little.

I've got a 1970 Fiat 124 Spider I might be willing to loan to this adventure. It hasn't ran in about 12+ years (I bought it to restore 4 years ago and never got around to it) but everything is there.

At one point it was an SCCA car and has the locations drilled out for a full cage already.

Tires are shot, needs a full tune up, fluid flush, 2nd gear replaced, and a few other things. I had it part way running in '07 but lost interest.

All I ask is if the car is still in decent shape afterwards that I get it back. :)

Greg use to race at one time and took care of his car, but then I stopped planning everything for him and looking over his shoulder. Hard enough just keeping my stuff straight.

I just -love- that low-to-the-ground oil pan. What can -possibly- go wrong?

Yep. Still haven't seen it with my own eyes, but I have no reason to doubt.

    Except that:
    1. It's Italian.
    2. It's old.
    3. It's neglected.

When this thread started, I had just moved 4 hours from DFW for my job, which at that time sounded like a reasonable round trip every weekend. And Tillman was I think single, and not yet in Law School. I still live in San Angelo, and Tillman is married, and in Law School.

Looking back on this thread, we had no idea how much work it would actually take, but we decided to go scope out a race.

In Feb 2010 we met up at the Houston and decided, hell yes this is something we want to do. But where to start?
    r
We decided it would be most practical to join another team and see what it was like to participate. Since April 2010, Tillman and I have driven in 3 Lemons races together, and I've driven in 2 more Lemons and 2 Chump Car for a total of 7 crapcan race.

The whole time, we were daydreaming about the Biturbo sitting in a field in East Texas, but being intimidated by geographical logistics.

The first race we ended up accidentally driving a race at ECR with Stew and the Dirty Some Beaches, Then we apprenticed with a LeMons team that was building a Ford Mustang fox body with a Taurus SHO motor, a Renault Dauphine with a Ford Duratec engine transaxle, and I went on to drive several races for a team fielding a Ford Fairmont Station Wagon with a 5.0 motor.

Meanwhile, the Biturbo beckoned and while we continue getting invites to drive for other teams, the next Bogey must be to build a car and field a team of our own . What we learned is that doing so is all consuming and not at all cheap. We also learned all the nuance of the rules and technical requirements of getting the cars on the field.

And we have added a teammate who lives in San angelo, also a DFW expatriate who has all the big ass trucks and trailers and motor home and mechanical knowledge and has plenty of SCCA and Spec Miata and Porsche club experience. Nobody's perfect but we won't hold any of that against him.

So Scuderia Ignorante lives. The Biturbo is in my driveway, as seen in the YouTube clip above and we will have it on the track in February 2012 in Houston (pending release of 2012 lemons schedule.

Now, WHO HAS BITURBO PARTS CARS? WE NEED ALL OF THEM WE CAN GET!!!!
