DC, in the Federal City between the Washington Monument and Capitol Hill. Pennsylvania Ave could make a great straight away up to the Treasury Building/WHite House, then down 15th street to the Monument, could take a few turns along Constitution Ave, acros 2nd street, up Indepenance ave, around the Capitol at 1st, than back down Constitution to Penn Ave!!!!

+1 Name a good street circuit in F1. Even Monaco is all show and no go. Do we need another over priced parade lap for 2 hours?

From a drivers stand point, Street circuits are an equalizer like rain. Some drivers are just better at committing to blind turns then others.

The original Long Beach layout was great. Otherwise, the rest are useless.

how about a run down 95 from dc to miami or up the west coast san diego to portland or chicago to new orleans or maybe down the blue ridge mnts with the tail of the dragon thrown in, why go around in a circle when you've got the whole country to drive over.

Why don't we share Montreal? Last time I looked, we had a date on the calendar but no one stepping up to assist with Bernie's tax. A ton of y'all are here anyway. Those that make it out of the stripclubs on the weekend would probably enjoy the Grand Prix du North America.

Not a bad idea, but quite frankly I enjoyed the USGP at Indianapolis more. Yes it is a Mickey Mouse track and yes Indy doesn't have the charisma and athmosphere that Montreal has.
But we also don't have to deal with the ticket Nazis who would let you only into certain gates based on your seats during non race days. I found that totally annoying last time I went there. In Indy you could basically show up anywhere you liked during non race day and e.g. get pictures from all kinds of angles.

Admittedly in the scheme of things it is a small complaint. But I never understood why Montreal was doing that. It makes sense on race day, but before that why bother with over controlling the much smaller crowds? Wasn't always like that in Montreal, so what bozo thought that was necessary?

DC had a sports car race (forgot which sanctioning org) a few years ago. It was supposed to be a 3 year deal, and the drivers liked it. But the neighborhood didn't like the noise, so it was cancelled after that one run.

I vote for Indy - venue is good. Just to need to get Indy management to get rid of their pompousness and get their act together.

The manufacturer pressure to race in the US is disappearing with the manufacturers and I can't see anybody wanting to pay Bernie's fees. It also doesn't matter to him whether there is a US race or not, ergo there won't be a US race any time soon I think.

    Good analysis.

However with time will come change: At some point the manufacturers will be back in F1 and at some point Bernie will be dead. So in ten years from now I can easily see a US GP back on the calendar. Patience, grasshopper.

    US/Canadian GP?
Half the track in one country half in the other?
Cool idea but the cars would have to clear customs twice a lap:)

Reminds me of the Detroit GP. IIRC there was a run off area that led to the tunnel and the cars would have ended up in Canada.

    Did not know that.
BTW This thread is about the USGP not the Mexican or Canadian GPs. While I look forward to a race in Montreal its no substitute of a USGP.

Not to hijack but it isn't a small complaint, just a valid one and you're right. They started that crap right around the same time they issued the security folks black attire. Disgusting.

At that time, Bernie will have locked in 50 year contracts with tracks like Korea, India, and the likes. :)

I'm thinking 10 years from now.

Korea is next year and India in 2011.

Ah the memories, the Caesars Palace Grand Prix. Always gets a bad rap, but it was truly a great time. Casinos pay $20-30 million to get a big fight and thats for only 1 night, the Grand Prix would be for 3 days for the same amount of money, its really a no brainer to put this on. The people that have money all over the world would flock to this to the casino's benefit and what a party for all the fans. As far as the racing goes, its better than nothing, which is what we have now.

Yup, which is why it needs to be downtown in the Federal City where there are minimal residents.

RFK, where the sports car race was held, is in a neighborhood, although I don't see a big difference between revving engines and roaring fans from back when the Skins were good and played there....

I don't think Vegas will happen. The last time I was in Nevada I wanted to bet on the F1 race that was happening that weekend. I went to the sports book and was told that Nevada took F1 off the book after the USGP whent Rubens let MS pass him for championship points. The person said that F1 is too "fixed" to give the casinos an opportunity to provide reliable betting. (i.e. house advantage) Without betting inome Vegas would not be likely to host such an event. The reason they shell out huge money for boxing matches is they make money on the betting. (like no one knew that) I vote for.... aah who cares IF a USGP happens they won't ask me for my opinion.

I think the "invited guest" crowd is most important, not those who bet on auto racing, thats a very, very small percentage. Baccarat money is what they're after and a F1 race would draw that type of crowd.

    NO!

    I wish, but doubtful.

    I remember the F1 race.

But it was racing, and if it sucked for racing, it sucked for ALL the racers.

    You are probably correct.

No - Walmart only does something if they are guaranteed a profit.
    Maybe Bernie secretly runs Walmart??

What's worse - that, or having to go thru scrutineering?

I was there I photographed all of them from 82 thru 88, they would have ended up in the water..

    Hey!
Let's have a race in Dallas or Phoenix in mid-July!!
    Heat?
    Ah who cares!!
    Ask Nigel Mansell.
