Yeah yeah, my belts are 12 years old. But not for long! Jack and Craig from NJB personally drive their hauler down from Westerville, OH to pick up my soulmate (sorry, honey). When they get started I'll post pics of the progress including the condition of the old belts and tensioners. I'll also show the Fabspeed headers, test pipes, secondary byass pipes, etc going on. Fabspeed also now offers clever O2 simulators for the test pipes which should prevent the dreaded CEL from coming on.

Any reason for the exhaust? Upgrades or issues?

Well, there is a small tear on the bottom side of the metal cover of the righthand header. I'm not sure if it was a faulty header issue because it's more of a tear than a crack, or just a cut by road debris, but I figured with the engine out for service, this would be a good time to do a replacement and upgrade of the whole exhaust system.

he lives in kentucky too, winding hilly roads, with horses in pastures, and loud 355's scarring the daylights out of them as he tears past...

Drove to Westerville for my 1st visit today. The engine was out so I got my 1st peek at the belts. They looked fine, but on one side a tensioner was bad and the belt was floppy loose. They are pulling them and are going to ship them to me in a day or so, so I'll try to get good close-ups then. Here's a couple of pics from today ....

Very sobering! My 348 has been running on the same timing belt, etc., for 16 years. I dropped it off with the local experts yesterday to start its 1st ever major. I can't wait to start sleeping at night... And, love the empty engine bay pic!!!

    Hi Gino,

Awesome looking GTS. My Berlinetta is in lots of bits at the moment as well, its almost as exciting as driving it!

What exhaust is on your car? It looks like mine and I have no idea what it is . . .

    Cheers

It had stock headers and cats with tubi muffler. I'm going back with Fabspeed headers, test pipes and the same tubi muffler. Top that off with Goth's resonator delete cap and she should sound pretty sweet when I get her back.

Okay, boys. Here ya go. Feed on these. 12 year old belts and tensioner bearings, fresh off my 98 F355. I looked them over closely with a magnifying glass. Couldn't find any any sign of dry rot or any kind of cracking. They do feel kind of stiff, though. I suspect they may not show wear gradually, but get to a point where the fiberglass and rubber dry out to a point where they just snap. I really don't know that, but it must be something like that, or how else could you explain why 12 year old belts with 19k miles "look" so new. The last pics are the new belts and tensioners installed. Very pretty. They look like peace of mind to me. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting so many pics, but I think there is a lot of interest in them. Note the chips by the hole on the one hole side of the bearings. Thanks,

    Geno

Nice, those 12 yr old belts appear to be in much better shape than I would expect.
