You can get good Ghibli's at Pantera prices just show up with cash, I would recomend the later cars as they had the bugs worked out.

Exactly. This has been driving me crazy ever since that Panthera thing was released. It's just some artist's fantasy. It is not commissioned, and has no ties to any car company. Yet over and over it keeps getting picked up and reprinted like it's supposed to be a serious concept.

Outside of that, I do hope we get a new Pantera. I can't imagine trying to revive the DeTomaso brand and not have that as your flagship. We don't need a Longchamp or Deauville. But right now all they are saying is one of three cars will be a coupe. Let's hope that means Pantera, and they do it right.

I had dinner with Andrea Zagato back in August and he was saying that the cost of designing and building chassis's is prohibitive for small companies. In order to build cars in the thousands you have to use an existing design. So unless you want the new Pantera built in the hundreds you would have to build off of a chassis like the GT40 platform.

IMO the chances of a ground up design for a new Pantera in volume unfortunately are slim at best.

I once read/heard that the Ford Gt could have served as the Pantera patform as it has now been decommisssioned, personally I wouldn't mind at all.

I guess "good" is a relative term.

You must be talking about GTS or GT5 Panteras because I haven't found a really nice Ghibli for under 70k, at least not a year ago. Those that are in the 40-60k range need work, in many cases A LOT of work.

Things may have changed in the last year but not that much. I haven't seen any nice ones "asking" less than 70k. I imagine they can be had for less if you are fortunate enough to find an owner in dire straits.

    I see a parts car here for 35k and a 1967 and 1970 advertised in the 90k's. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/maserati/ghibli/

I would imagine that 50-60KK would get you a very nice driver. Be patient and look for cars that have had long term owners. They didn't makre that many, so it takes a little bit of work.

Spiders have always been expensive and have been x3 or x4 of standard Ghibli's for as long as I can remember. The other two cars that are less expensive but use similar chassis are the Khamsin and the Indy. Both of these cars are in many ways, better more updated versions of the Ghibli.

Half the fun is the hunt.

You should look at a Maserati Merak SS or even a Bora.
