It's winter; time to dream a little bit. Bernie has brought F1 to some cool locations around the world; some , eh, not so exciting. So my topic is; 'Where would you love to see a Grand Prix held'? A new place; not Watkins Glen, Detroit, Dallas etc.... Personally I always thought a Russian Grand Prix was always a great idea. That and the Cancun/Mexican GP was a great idea. Just curious to see what great locations come up. Kevin
England Oh, sorry, just couldn't help myself. But on that theme, how about a Welsh GP? The Gower peninsula is nice, and if they run it through The Mumbles, they could just about count on some of the locals to turn up, such as: Image Unavailable, Please Login
While it might not work well with an F1 car, Phillip Island in Australia would be a neat place to have a race. It is one of the best track for bikes in the world.
Completely infeasible, but a friend of mine had the idea for a GP in Boston. You could set up a circut on both sides of the Charles using Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive by MIT. I like the idea for a race using that circut, but its not practical for F1 for a variety of reasons.
There is currently only one continent where F1 has no race: Africa Bring back the South African GP or the Moroccan GP. Also South America is under represented. Argentina should have a race again.
I would love to see Egypt or Greece represented on the calendar. Imagine F1 cars screaming through and around all those pyramids!
Boston would make a great venue. Provided you didn't close the streets to normal traffic and made them deal with the local talent.
A GP in Athens would be great. There are plans for a large city park on the old Athens international airport site, right on the water. It would be similar to the race in Melbourne and I'm sure attendance would be huge. They are all gearheads over there and always up for a good party
Not sure what you mean about something new - completely new? Or a track it's never run on? Laguna Seca would be the track I'd like to see F1 cars on - and it's never been used. And although I am not a fan of oval racing, a good oval would be neat to see F1 cars screaming around...
Probably a bit controversial, but now that Gaddaffi has rejoined the human race, couldn't we revive the Tripoli GP on Lybia? In the pre-war era, when the country was an Italian colony, it used to be one of the jewels of the GP calendar, and had a marvellous and fast track then. It was considered "The Ascott of motor racing". The F1 calendar could do with a race in North Africa to be guaranted no rain, and we could also have a track that present different challenge and rewards top SPEED, and not punctuated by those awfull chicanes ( I still dream that someone, one day, will remove the chicanes at Monza!). . One thing: please don't ask Tilke to design the track!! All his circuits look the same...
Shame that won't happen; the Nordschleife is a brilliant circuit. Anyone who claims to be an enthusiast must make the pilgrimage and drive it once, just as Muslims must make the pilgrimage to Mecca. Just remember: trying to set a fast lap is a good way to go home in a body bag.
I didn't have any criteria when I posted this; only someplace new. As we know Bernie puts races where he gets the $$; not where us fans want them....
There is a cool track in Portugal. I think the Le Mans series runs there. How about the North Pole at midnight in full daylight? Nurburgring.
