Reasons for Michael to come back: He wants to win 100 F1 races; His career was aborted when Ferrari signed Kimi and Michael was forced to decide between himself and Felipe; Mercedes can give Michael the chance to make it to 100 in one season; Mercedes needs an experienced driver that will mentor a young driver (Nico) and Michael is that person; Michael and Ross go together well; after getting put in the position he was by Luca, Michael might enjoy finishing with another team as champion, but not just any team, a German team; with Nico as a team mate there will be no question as to who is number 1 on the team.

Reasons for Michael to not come back: Marriage; age

Prognosis: Even if Michael can talk his wife into one more season, she has to be asking "What happens if you end up with 98 or 99 wins? Does that mean Just One More?" If it isn't Michael, Heidfeld looks like the next best choice if Mercedes is insistant on an experienced German driver. Then Ross has to be Nico's mentor.

Of all the scenarios presented predicting/wishing/hoping for Michael's return, these are the most legitimate.

    Agreed.

Plus it does seem like MS is at least intertested in a return, and not to the dog that was the F60.

While i doubt Mercedes will lure Michael back, I find it odd that Nick Heidfeld still hasn't been signed. To me, that means m-b is agressively pursuing Michael, or even Kimi. Who else am I missing?
    Thoughts?

IMO, it's just for publicity. Frankly, i think Nick has already signed.

Our friend here seemed busy :

Michael Schumacher's manager Willi Weber on Wednesday kept speculation alive that the seven-time champion could return to Formula One.

Weber told the German weekly Bunte that, after the German had to call off his 2009 return to replace the injured Felipe Massa for health reasons, Schumacher is now fit.

"His neck is also completely fine, just like his entire psyche," Weber said. "He could drive for victories."

Triple world champion and German-language commentator Niki Lauda, however, doesn't believe the most successful driver in F1's history is about to stage a full comeback.

Referring to the rumours, the 60-year-old Austrian said: "I don't believe that there is one single grain of truth in them, at least from all the signals that I get.

    "

Lauda said he can understand Schumacher's desire to fill in until Massa recovered this year, "but I cannot believe that he would be up for a full season".

"Why then he did stop racing in the first place?" he told F1's official website. "But that is my personal opinion."

    I think he will return.

1)I think he still want to compete.

2)He saw the buzz he generated when he was returning for Massa.

3)It is a German car maker with his friends running the show.

    4) Financially, what is not to love about that.

And he still ends up as a quadruplegic paralized from the neck down if he has one single accident.

    He ain't coming back.

Exactly, the risk totally outweighs what he may stand to gain or lose.

Having said that I don't think anyone would not like to see him have a go, filling in for Massa would have been perfect. However I assume when he started training for the G load it could have hurt, that and realizing the car was a nightmare to drive.

I'm going by the statements. His doctor did not think that returning to racing is an option anymore.

he was carting in Vegas at high speed...he could as easily end up a quadriplegic doing that...
I think if his neck injury were that serious, he would be engaging in NO high risk activities.

That would be pretty awful, especially considering how well his long time wingman, Irvine, appears to be doing financially. But I guess personal finance is not F1.

You have a point there. Which makes his explanations for why he didn't want to have a comeback in the dreadful F60 all the more laughable.

Andreas, in a way, he could return next year. Think about it...when he was supposed to replace Massa, how much time he had to get in shape? Almost none. Whereas now, he could have been training non-stop since he was supposed to replace Massa, and thus be in proper shape for the 2010 season.

I highly believe that paralyze for life thing is fake. Yes, he has/had a neck injury, but not life threatening, i'm assuming. If not, like someone posted above, he should not be doing hi risk stuffs...including karting and riding a horse.

Thank you for making my point. :)

Schumacher cannot have it both ways:

Either the injury is life threatening and then a Merc drive is out of the question or it was a fake and he just didn't want to look like BADoer driving the lousy F60.

Looks like Mercedes may be about to put an end to this thread by signing Robert Kubica, who would be a great choice for them with his consistency.

That might end the speculation regarding Mercedes.

However I have no illusion that this will be the end of MS comeback rumors. The Rottkaeppchen will continue to dream of their hero's return to racing.

    WICKED!

With Kimi sadly gone I will still have Kubica, vettel and Massa to support.

I really hope Kubica can win more races next season.

If Kubica gets the Brawn seat, then we'll finally see whether he is as good as his reputation or not.

I would be surprised if he really blew through all his money in such a short period.

IIRC he made over 1 billion US$ during his career and as far as I can tell, he really hasn't done many stupid things with it...

His big expenditures are his lake geneva house (apparently is was around 50 million to build), his private jet (for sale at 29m, if he bought it new maybe 40m, lets say around 3m for running costs) and a bunch of cars and Arabian horses for his wife (which where around the cost of a second hand Ferrari 550).

Unless he was a complete fool and invested every single penny he has in bernie madoff, how would he have possibly have blown a billion? A 150 mil blown away on living cost over a good few years is understandable...But after a big house, private jet and living like a king it would start to be pretty hard to get through all that money!

    :)

Yup. He didn't look good this season (much like Alonso) but in the previous season he was epic imo:).
