What do you expect from a guy whose avatar is a "sawz-all" ? --- LOL

"when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail"

So, I suppose that when you have a sawz-all,

"everything starts to look like it needs to be cut"

I dunno about that. I'd love to see him try and perform other automotive tasks. Maybe change a water pump using his 4' crowbar and 25lb sledge. It'd make for great TV.

Hey you just hit on a reality show concept. Give completely unskilled people a bunch of tools and things to fix and sit back and see what happens :) :) ROFL!

We could get Milwaukee tools to sponsor. Because sawzalls can be used for EVERYTHING.

My favorite bit of the exchange:

    Quote:
"As an industrial mechanic, I just don't even have words. There are a lot of options you skipped right over when you went for the sawzall."

    Reply:
But where they as bad ass as the sawzall?

No, they weren't, because they won't saw through ****ing everything.

It's a good thing his gas cap wasn't stuck. He'd have used dyamite to loosen it.

The sad news is he's applying to Chyrsler to be a Fiat tech.

When I was young and broke I snapped off a lug nut on my Buick somerset. I have never heard of anyone having a lug nut snap the way mine did. The lug AND the nut broke off flush with the wheel leaving the bottom half of the nut on the sheared off lug. I just drove the car until the brakes went bad and then sold the car.

Well, young guys need a little positive help and encouragement. So many young guys who want to mess around with cars have no mechanical skills and really just need to be shown how to do it right. Either they don't have a Dad around to help them learn, or their Dad is just as clueless if he is around.

Personally, I've found that if you can take the time and show some willingness to bridge the gap with the next generation you'll find a willing audience. Of course, it helps if you have a well stocked garage and some cool cars (like ferraris) to work on with them.

After all, the kid could instead be out there stealing the wheels off your new 430 instead of monkeying around with his own car....

Oh, I don't know...all of the suggestions I saw listed here, he tried. He stripped the "key". I'm not sure where the "tap" came in. He tried some other stuff, and then had someone try to weld a bolt on it. I've never seen this fail. His first real error in judgement, was not finding another welder. Sometimes you get so focused on the goal, you just can't see the forest for the trees. And, of course, he's nowhere as intelligent and clever as we all are. Yes, it does make you shake your head but, let he who has never done anything really stupid, cast the first dispersion.
And, to paraphrase Gallagher, "You want that wheel to go? It's gone!

I can't even imagine going for the saw if this happened to me, what was he thinking and then to prove to the world by documenting this with pictures is classic.

The guy may have been stuck between a rock & real hard place with out the experience, tools, money & wisdom a lot of us have.
I was glad to see that he at least fixed it himself without junking the car or calling "Mommy".
There does not seem to be as many "fixers" in the Gen X & Y groups.

The best part was all the "support" he got from his friends.

This really tickled me. Thanks FBB.
