anyone know how to remove and replase the front speakers 86 tr? thanks.
There are fiberglass pods in both footwells. By carefully pulling off the weather seal in the door opening, you will find small screws into the metal wheel liner. There are also screws in the section of the speaker pod that wraps around the wheel well that is close to the trunk or firewall. Maybe two or three screws on each side. Good luck. Tweeters are a pain in the ass.. The dash has to come out.. I would just re-use them or place tweeters on speaker panels.. Factory tweeters are pretty good.. You can get replacement grilles as well just in case they got scuffed up... R
The dash does not need to come out to replace the tweeters. I just removed mine today. All you need to do is remove the under dash cover and reach up under the passenger side footwell and pop it out (they just fit snug... there are no clips). The drivers side is just a little tougher. I could not reach up there as something was blocking the path, so I took a door panel removing tool, put a towel behind it and gently pryed / popped the speaker out. The kick panel speakers come out as described above. Good luck. jeff thanks for the info. jeff do you know the size of the speakers? + what set of speakers will be a good set up for the front footwells? thanks.
For what its worth, I am replacing all of my components with Focal as I did in my 308. The sound / quality can't be beat.
Check out their website for more info. I am putting the Polyglass 6.5" Coax Speaker in the footwells. http://www.focal-america.com/
i did remove the fiberglass cover on the footwells and in side is the OEM FERRARI speaker + a smoll box. this is what is on it (ferrari car speaker parts) (ref 61644000) (POTENZA MAX:100W) (POTENZA RMS:50 W) (IMPEDENZA: 4 OHM) what is this? is the a amp for the speakers?
The TR SPC describes 61644000 as a "loudspeaker filter" used only up to SN 85011 (item 25): http://www.ricambiamerica.com/parts_catalogs.php?M=FE&P=&V=diag&I=2914
steve what is the purpose of this filter do you know? will be replasing the speakers. the wires go to this filter first and then to the speakers will the new speakers loose power with this filter in there? the sound on the OEM speakers are not of quality. i will use the (infinity refrence 6022i)
I put JBL's in the footwell & replaced the stock Tweeters with ADS. Great sound at a good price, and it all appears totally stock. -sbf
I did a little more research, and it depends IMO on whether you are using the stock tweeter or not, and whether or not you want the "new" speakers down below to produce only low frequencies or both low and high frequencies. On most aftermarket tweeters (or "two-way" speakers where the tweeter is built-in), the capacitor to filter out the low frequencies is part of the tweeter (i.e., if you are using the stock tweeter, use the stock filter since that is where the capacitor, C, is mounted). The inductor, L, in the "filter" will block high frequencies from reaching the new speaker so if you wanted to eliminate this you would bypass it with a jumper wire going from the 0,8 V wire to the HL speaker wire on the LH side and from the 0,8H wire to the HL speaker wire on the RH side (although this will change the overall impedance). Here are the schematics of the stock system: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
steve will use the stock tweeter + the new speakers come with tweeters. the sound on the new speakers is no that good. thanks for all the help. phill.
All the speakers are not so good in a TR! Figure on doing a whole system replacement ......................or.............just listen to the glorious 12 cylinder music that comes from your rear bonnet!
