I was watching Stars Warst Episode 4 ..the original one last night. I remembered that I had a old DOS Games with Star Wars Themes. Lucas Arts made both of them. X-Wing Tie Fighter They are both great games!!!!! Wish I could still get them and play them on my new Win XP PC. Thanks, Uzy
Uzy: You can get X-Wing and Tie Fighter from any Torrent site... for example http://dl.btjunkie.org/torrent/Star-Wars-Flight-Sim-Gems-X-Wing-TIE-Fighter-XWA/328079006cc926118521f56b3833cb6ab21dd09d58a4/download.torrent There is a patch that lets the games run under Windows here: http://www.lucasfiles.com/index.php?s=&action=file&id=653 Enjoy!
"As You Wish" - BobaFett. Where to start sooooooooooooo many awesome games were released during the DOS years. Lucas Arts were masters of the DOS era. It's just a shame it all went down hill in 00 Not just the star wars games but they owned the adventure game too. I was playing Tie Fighter again recently on XP, its easy just install Dosbox http://www.dosbox.com/
Always a Wing Commander guy myself. Meant to try the X-wing vs. Tie fighter games but i guess the Playstation came out at the time shifting my focus. Man i loved wing commander. The later version had Mark Hamill in it but i still liked the original better. Seems the game was better when it was a Star Wars wanna be. Once they landed Mark the game had become bloated and it was all about the story lines and cut scenes. It was the first game i'd played that had a story based on your performance. You'd win a battle and come back to the ship just to see how your performance moved the story ahead. Somehow more captivating when it was only text based than when they added speech/music etc.
I will always remember wasting the days away playing "Castles II" or "Tie-Fighter". Downloaded Castles II a few years ago... sadly it had some "feature" added that asked random questions that you could only answer if you had the manual... sadly I couldn't find a manual anywhere...
It's just called QUAKE I had to upgrade my 486 to play that game haha. Played on dial-up and LAN. climb: I started with WC2 played 3 as well as privateer 2. Didn't really like WC4. You have to play Tie Fighter tho. You are Darth Vaders *****
My fav's were DOOM, Quake, Tie Fighter, X Wing, Mech Warrior, Wing Commander 3, and some 3-d Helicopter game I forget the name of. I wish they'd make a new Mech Warrior game...the SNES version was awesome...I think I have that rom... I remember how amazed I was when I found out Quake would take 10mb of HDD space...then Duke Nukem came out and took 500mb. I thought it would end there! There was an awesome Quake addon with a lot of fun multiplayer stuff. I still have Quake dreams, which I don't mind at all.
That was true love when you'd buy a faster computer just to play the next version of your favorite game. Thank god for Xbox and PS. Most of the DOS computer games lost something though when they made them for consoles. I remember buying a MMX (multimedia extension pentium) computer just to play Mechwarrior smoothly and thinking i had the fastest machine ever made. Played a Duke Nukem setup at a Comp USA store once that had headphones and it blew my mind as you'd hear the shotgun shells hit the floor and your character breathing as he roamed the halls looking for prey. The headphones really drew you in. A nice weighted and perfectly calibrated joystick really made me think about how meek my setup was.
Haha MMX. Biggest load of marketing BS. MechWarrior 2 intro was pretty elite. I played 2 a lot. Played all the FPS. The jump from 486 to Pentium was huge, I remember ppl calling Pentium 90's as ninja pc's haha. Same Maybe, a lot of doom clones at the time Haha. I remember playing those games at computer stores but they pimped Return to Zork. in the early 90's along with Myth they must of sold zillions of copies. As in Nibbles/Gorillas that came with Dos? That is oldskool I played those when I was at machines that didn't have games(ie: in class haha) I hated the draw distance in Magic Carpet and the other games that used that engine. I never got into Dungeon keeper. Bullfrog made some epic games. It went down hill after Molyneux left. Syndicate was pretty awesome, Syndicate Wars I only ever played the demo. Magic Carpet/2 Theme Park Hi-Octane(mc engine) Populous That's a great fighting game, I think the only real fighter made just for PC. I played that to death! haha. It's actually freeware now if you feel like revisiting it http://www.omf.com/faq/misc.html
I was just fixing to correct my post from Snake to Nibbles, but yes, exactly. I played them in class too. Junior high and high school. Damn those things were endless hours of fun.
Mechwarror 2 intro is still the best intro I think I've ever seen. I have the soundtrack to that game somewhere. Some of the best music of a game, too.
Scorched Earth Hugo's House of Horrors Space Quest 4 7th Guest (one of my top 5 favs) 11th Hour Phantasmagoria Doom 2 Alone in the Dark Did anyone else call Lucasarts on the phone back in the day to have them ship demos of all of their games over and over just so you could format the free disks?
