Sold the 308 recently. still have the 911 Targa, and the 4 speed 78 Trans Am ( Trans Am is for sale ... ) i am now the owner of this 1987 Slopenose 911 Cabriolet. yes, i know i am the guy who " hates open top cars, blah, blah " , but i wanted to try something different. i have to eat crow for all of my GTB versus GTS comments on here i guess ! i will be looking for a carb 308 or 308GT4 later on. not sure what the hell i will do with TWO black 911's, but its a good problem to have i guess. i am trying to get the slopenose car transported from North Carolina to Savannah. when i see it in person i am sure i will have questions. car passed a basic PPI. other than that i dont know anything about it. ya know guys, i think the slopenose car is black metallic. my Targa is "black" and they look different in the pics. my old 89 carrera was black metallic, ( it was a 25th Anniversary car) be cool when i get them side by side.
Congrats on the slope nose, my favorite 911,looks like a racer just sitting still! Enjoy her in good health. B.
Looks very clean. I had a 993 cabrio and the open top lets you hear more of the engine, which is pretty cool on the air-cooled cars.
Glad to hear it's going to a good home! I was born and raised in Savannah; there's not a prettier place in the states I think.
This was one of the classic designs of the 80's. I actually had a poster of a red slant nose cab in my room back in the day. Congrats and enjoy! At least you won't have to stuff it in the garage until spring.
funny you mention the BBS wheels. the few original period pics i can find from the 80s show these later cars sort of standardized into a "package". i am supposed to know more when the docs for the car arrive, but the guys on Pelican have already pointed out the front valance is euro 930s, and not "correct" . so the car is a nice conversion, and should be fun to drive. i paid $15,500 for it and it passed a PPI! you just cant get this kind of cool fun for that pricepoint anymore. Michael
KDS ..... going to send a pm, as i would love to hear your thoughts on this car, and i can provide the vin if you think you could dig up any history. i know you are the man with 911s around here! michael, a couple of comments: the rear wheels look a bit narrow (they look like 16x8 but you can fit 16x11 easily when properly offset) so i am assuming that the offsets are not perfect...easily fixed with wheel spacers for the rear and the wheel wells will be filled out more. driver side box rocker needs the end cap at the rear wheel. driver side rear fender flare and lower wing needs alignment...not a big deal. clearly a ton of cool car for the money!!! top looks great too! pcb
i was hoping you would chime in. i am going to work on the small things as i can when it gets here, and just drive it for fun. i am going to source a spare 3.2 engine to have, in case the motormiester one blows up on me. KDS sent me a great and very helpful PM. car should arrive Monday.
been busy with work. slope arrived yesterday...... already started tinkering with it! i had never seen a slopenose before the car arrived. now i own one. car need little things done, otherwise its clean and runs well. the differences side by side with my "regular" Carrera Targa, really make you think. its a blessing to be a gearhead! Michael, Hope to meet you tomorrow at Gulfstream. Wayne Carini has one in the next town over from me. If you wanted to compare pics this one is certainly unique... search inventory- Porsche http://www.f40.com/index.php congrats this car looks great and a heck of a deal
thanks ! i hope to meet up with you as well. i sent and email to my Director in the Service Center, (Darrell Frey) to see if you can get a tour of the Facilities of interest, and maybe get a peek where i am in the Advanced Design Research Laboratory. They do allow Customers in parts of R&D , now and then ! lots of cool stuff going on at work! Maybe you can see some of the G650s on the line, as G650 number 2 is almost ready to fly as well! (weather here is supposed to be nasty today though!) Michael
once you go the widebody route...a carrera bodied car seems soooo skinny! porsche hit the mark sooooooo perfectly with the 930 widebody. they have got the hottest booties on the road. and michael, do yourself a favor and have a friend drive the car for you as you watch or follow. as cool as they look while static...you gotta see her on the road!!!! i hope you enjoy it for a while...i know your next step will be a 930. do remember that you have a standing invite to drive mine the next timeyou are in charlotte. enjoy it my friend! pcb
car came from Charlotte, i wish could have met you and picked up the car in person, but it was easier to get it shipped. i would love to spend some time around a real 930, slope or not, i just dont see any around here where i live. i am sure the Porsche club guys have a few members with the cars. very good point about seeing the cars in motion, i had it delivered by a friend from the car dealership i had it shipped to here in Savannah. it was surreal seeing this low, black "thing" coming into my driveway and garage for the first time. car sounds a bit mean too, for a non turbo. i have not driven the car yet, as i have to get a punch list together and fix the know issues, then do my standard " pre flight " on the car.
sunshine and warm weather today, finally! had the top down for the first time. car drives really well, wind noise is minimal, even at Interstate speeds. maybe i need to look at drop top Ferrari's in the future! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
