Ok who's the Uboat Commander?

1) The guy is a fraud. Andy House sells vehicles with salvage titles and represents them as clear title vehicles. This is a fact.
2) He owns a vehicle salvage company that offers, on their web site to buy back salvage vehicles for profit.
3) There is no pelican.
4) There is no attempt to regain his composure or swerve back on to the highway.
5) This is the ONLY spot on this road where the "exit strategy" isn't riddled with painful and sharp rocks. (I've been on this road, I can tell you that there is not a single stretch of tarmac that lends itself to an easy dump in the bay EXCEPT where he pitched it)
6) The mathematics are EXTREMELY in his favor to get a check from the insurance company and retain the salvage like he has done so many times in the past.
7) Andy left the motor on. He knows saltwater in the engine totals it out, and he knows that it's much easier to fix than most people believe.
8) This road goes NOWHERE. That in itself is not hard evidence, since many of us drive roads to nowhere. It's interesting, nonetheless.

Come to your own conclusions. This guy is the reason our insurance rates are astronomical. He needs to have his ass beat. IF it wasn't for the guys in the truck next to him, he'd have a check for $1.5m and a salvage car worth $500K.

 

I disagree with nearly all of this (I think it's possible it could've been an accident). But I do agree fully with this:

Soooo true. I think when he plunged that Bugatti into the water, everyone in east Texas's insurance rates went up about $5. He probably paid a few thousand dollars and will probably receive a payment for more than $1.5 million.

And he'll probably buy the wrecked car, salvage it, and resell it to himself with a clear title!!!

The Veyron's owner has said in the media that he never claimed there was a pelican - he claims that is a story the tow truck's driver told the inquisitive press when they called asking about it later. That seems plausible to me.

Regarding the financial aspect, this car was legally registered in Texas, meaning he paid sales tax on his purchase. It doesn't seem "EXTREMELY in his favor" to pay 7% tax on a $1.5 million car ($105k!) just to drive it into a lake.

Regarding insurance, despite what one unknown person posting somewhere on the Internet says, his claim has NOT been denied yet. I have no knowledge of this case but come on people - have you ever dealt with an insurance company? It takes weeks to pay out $5k. They're not about to do anything without a looooooong hard look at the situation.

I'm not passing too much judgment, but at the moment I don't think it's impossible this was an accident. I have a friend who totalled a Toyota Camry this same way - phone fell between the pedals, he looked down to get it and turned the wheel inadvertently; by the time he looked up he was a split second from colliding with a pole.

 

In the final analysis, it certainly does not rise to the high standard of Peiter and Deiter in the Enzo on the Pacific Coast Highway, now does it?

 

I was rear ended at a red light by a driver looking for his dropped cellphone...in my one week old car... :-(

 

Ever since college I assume any car that's weaving around is because the driver dropped his joint on the floor.

I guess I mentioned it a time or two so now all my kids will say "Ha! Dropped his joint!" when they see a weaver.

 

It's 6.25% in Texas on presumptive value. But he's a dealer, and in Texas he is allowed one "demo" unit to run his dealer plates on without paying taxes. HE gets a check for ACV ($1.2M or more) plus $500K in salvage value. This would have been a windfall profit for Mr. House if it weren't for that video.

 

Wow, I never knew that, so what about the guy with the 550 that left his cars on the train tracks? I think he was a dealer as well, must be a shady part of dealers.

 

The vehicle had regular plates, not dealer plates.

Pretty clearly the brand-new Texas license plate that came out just a few months ago. Here is Texas's dealer plate; you can see the differences even in the low-quality video.
