They took out a full-page wanted ad in Autosport mag in the UK two weeks ago, hiring absolutely every kind of design/manufacture/IT/mech there is, to be based either in the US or their European base in Spain - wonder where/when the interviews will be held?

...and where the payroll will come from, and how they're going to have a car ready by, what, February when they're interviewing design and manufacturing people in December.

LOL your dead right I have taken a decidedly "wait and see" approach and are willing to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

I have read from a source I highly respect wait and see!! however I do share most folks sentiments on the USF1, it does appear a joke.

However because of that I remain on the fence.

And I need a reason to get Viz's siren blowing a song of crow..;)

    It's humble pie over here.

But I like the thought of beaks and claws in it.

Say what we will about USF1 they do supply us with fodder in these lean days.
Someone is going to look foolish when this is all over. My money is still on P.W.

Until today I was thinking, that USF1 is trying to just buy the team/cars from somebody else, but even that option is vanishing quickly:

    - Sauber is now in for sure
    - Renault's chassis will go to Prodrive
    - Toyota will only sell its 2010 cars, but not the team

Furthermore Toyota has been trying to sell its cars for a while now, but had no takers. That would include USF1.

So where are the USF1 cars coming from eventually?

You are welcome. I heard Milli Vanilli singing "Girl You Know It's True" on the radio and IMMEDIATELY visualized PeeWee and Matchett in black dreadlock wigs dancing and lip-synching like Milli Vanilli...

not blind, but rather a shi!t stirrer. none of the new teams were there, for lack of a car.

    - i don't know about sauber "for sure", it looks 50/50 to me
    - no comment
    - will toyota find a buyer? usf1 would never be a customer. it would destroy them to not have built their own car.

not sure what "eventually" implies but from my perspective as a fan and supporter of USF1, it's clear and obvious that USF1 will and must build their own car. none of the new teams would buy Toyota's car.

Any publicity is good publicity. Hopefully all the publicity will make a large American company curious and have the financial pockets to get the team to a competitive level. I think Windsor has put thought into it. Nascar does aerodynamic work and there is a cottage industry in that area of the United States similar to the F1 cottage industry mainly located in England. It is a resource that can be harnessed (also the skill sets are probably transferable--without the astronomical F1 wages). Therefore basing the operation in this area could be considerably lower personnel wage costs compared with a similar England based operation with experienced F1 personnel.

I personally hate seeing this blow up in Windsor's face. He stuck his b*lls on the line and I respect that... You root for someone like that to succeed!

Information provided by members of this forum can definitely lead to a forum member considering the probability of the USF1 team being physically able to field a competitive car on the grid for the first race of 2010.

As an American F1 fan I would REALLY like an American team to root for. It would be nice if we could get ahold of someone like Newey and see what kind of staff we could build around him... who knows maybe someone with Jerry Jones type money might be interested in the advertising possibilites of the Dallas Cowboys sponsorship. Imagine Cowboys merchandise getting worldwide exposure and sales from being on the sides of the world's fastest cars...Jerry could make a mint...

OK . . . do we separate the two of you.

For the record, if they make it, I'll eat some crow too.

Yes this is true but it's easier for people to stick with a baseless assumption and continue beating down on an operation they are entirely ignorant about. The press usually is clueless as well.

PW maybe a bit of an idiot but he isn't the end all be all of this operation. As I recall KA had been planning it for several years and the opportunity of the budget cap brought the plan forward by a bit.

Elan industries is nothing to dismiss either. If I recall correctly part of it is the remains of van diemen

    Oh, we all have faith.

58 days to the first test, they've almost signed an almost F1 driver, they've missed all of their own pre-announced schedules, they're hiring people to design and build a car as you read this and I am still waiting on a reply to my e-mail wishing them well that I sent 2 months ago!

Good job Jacques is willing to get back in F1, that's probably their primary pilot from what the rumourmill says.

as for KA, this is a verbatim repeat of the Falcon project, same ideology, smugness and use of other people's money until that ran out.

Bring on the crow, but I still have a growing distaste for the way things have been handled to date.

Oh, and having been employed both sides of the Pond in the motor racing world for a number of years and still with some contacts currently in business both sides of the pond, the labour cost is very much higher on this side.

    Baseless assumption? Entirely ignorant?
By all means enlighten us with your knowledge please.

Did you even follow this and all the other threads?

Is there one piece of car that USF1 has been able to show us so far? Or one sponsor? Or a driver? Or a car model?

Believe what you want, but the reality is that PeeWee's time is running out. He has to hire people, train people, build a car, get the parts crash tested by the FIA, pass the tests, hire drivers, buy support equipment for the races and get the cars ready for their first tests.

And he has about 6 weeks left to get all that done. Even Ross Brawn couldn't do it. And PeeWee is no Ross Brawn. And Ross had a rolling chassis and a team at this point in time a year ago.

Alex -- I have been to the USF1 facility. I posted pictures of my visit (from the outside). I went inside and talked with people. I posted real observations from the pictures on the walls, to the empty trophy case, to the # of cars in the parking lot, to the offices with lights off, to the NAME of the secretary behind the front desk, to her laptop (a Dell).

My assumptions are anything but baseless. I admit that they could get it done, but this means producing a car from (almost) thin air in a few months.

    I just don't see it.

But, I do give PW kudos for putting himself out there. Nothing good happens without boldness. (I just hope it is not stupidity.)

It may be that you were at the "decoy" facility set up to throw everyone off the scent while the radical new world-beater USF1 is being finished without distraction at the top-secret underground USF1 skunk-works. Wouldn't that be something?

    HaHa.

How could I be so stupid?????

Maybe it will be a visually-stealth. (you know, 'visual stealth' is the "Predator.") An unseen car. How smart of PW!

There is a little typo on the plan: It shouldn't read "Wayne Manor", but "Windsor Manor". My apologies.
