Has anyones attempted changing the ball joints on a 360 ?

I know these are a common problem and on my old 360 Spider it cost about £2k GBP to have them replaced, the parts to buy are very cheap, so just wondered how difficult it would be or any special tools required to change them.

    Whats involved

    Anyone tried it ??

There are 2 ball joints per corner. So 8 ball joints for the whole car will cost you about £1,000 to £1,100 in parts alone. More if you also need to replace the rubber dust caps. So if £2,000 installed price is for the whole car then it seems very reasonable.

If you want to do it yourself you will need a press and basic hand tools.

You will also need to check if alignment is still in spec after reassembling everything. To do that you will need at minimum some strings and a camber gauge.

I spoke about this very thing with an Aussie Ferrari dealer (offical) and they informed me that there are no genuine 'ball joints' anymore, they are not sold seperatley - that to fix the problem you need to by the entire control arm - cost $3,500 each! $3,500 x 8 = bankrupt! (pds = UK pounds)

    Aftermarket ( www.eurospares.co.uk) I have found out:

    Control arms

    Front upper part number: 200945 cost 230pds X 2

Front lower part number 200939 cost 511pds X2

    Rear upper part number: 200946 cost 234pds X 2

    Rear lower part number 200944 cost 336pds X 2

    Control arm bushes cost 28pds X 4 part number 184610 / 609

    Total cost is 2826 pds

    does include labbour though.

    Hope this helps. Vegas (Australia)

Ferrari lists ball joints as replaceable parts, but it would not surprised me if there is no stock and you have to buy the wishbones. Ferrari is quite good at making you buy a very expensive part/assembly instead of the cheap bits. For example you have to buy a whole new steering rack if the inner tie rod is worn.

If OEM ball joints are no longer obtainable, then get aftermarket ones.

Hill Engineering located in UK and is a sponsor here makes 360 ball joints in stainless steel.

The front end of my 360 was clicking pretty noticeably. I thought it was the ball joints, but on further inspection, I found it to be the links that attach the front sway bar to the a-arm. I don't know exactly what your symtoms were, but consider these links.

A thumbs up for Hill Engineering. Once you replace the ball joints with theirs, they shouldn't need doing again.

I've never heard of these being replaced on road cars. If you race your car then I would understand. I checked with my dealer and they can't remember the last time they replaced them.
