There is nothing about that in our Mondi 3.4 owner's manual. The 4000rpm note refers to the water temp. Sort of a catch 22. The fastest way to get the oil hot is to rev the motor. Had the same problem with our Mondi. Glad you are back in action. Dave
Thanks for the update! What that means was that half of your engine wasn't running...so it *wasn't* your rev limiter kicking in...it was that half of your engine could only rev your whole motor to 5,000 rpms. The rev limiter itself has a unique sound, by the way. BWAP, BWAP, BWAP, BWAP, BWAP from your exhaust as you hammer the throttle to redline and cause the rev limiter to kick in. It is a beautiful, unmistakable Ferrari sound that I like to experience everytime I take my 348 out for a hard drift on my track. Big difference, however, between having half an engine that won't rev past 5,000 rpms compared to having a fully functional Ferrari motor that blasts up to the 7700 RPM redline and kicks in the rev limiter!
Actually, she was behaving EXACTLY as if she was hitting a rev limiter. I know exactly what you mean, I rev her to the limiter in each gear too My Ferrari guys freak out about it, but it's about enjoying the car. If something breaks, you fix it and keep going
Interesting. Is there an ignition cut-off/soft rev limiter for 348s? On my 575M, there is fuel cut-off at 7600 rpm, which I hit occasionally, but it is not a particularly happy noise like you describe. Taz Terry Phillips
A friend of mine said to me that the 348 engines true output is restricted due to belt drag and that you can make it rev faster if you remove the cambelt and then try revving it hard) I'm a bit busy at the moment so can't do it myself, so was wondering if you could try that out and see if it works.
Sorry, don't want to mislead anyone and have them damage their engine by reading my above post. So when you take the cambelt out and before you rev the engine, make sure you warm the engine up first.
Yup, just warming it up on a cold morning is what I was told. The power of hydraulics....it will find a weak link when you rev them cold.
