I've managed to get hold of a 348 Le Mans race engine. The first and most obvious problem is how to fit a filter to it. The original car had a carbon box placed over it which I don't really want to do if I can get away with it. Anyone have any ideas? More than happy to modify the engine lid. Pics below of the engine and the carbon box. Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I tried to find a pic to no avail as of yet mate, but in Australia we have a V8 Supercar series. They have the same style intake setup as your Le Mans engine. They pretty much use a BIG foam air filter that sits on top of those intakes. That may be an alternative? I will try and find a pic to show you. You wont find too many under bonnet pics of V8 Supercars, because they "hide" the size/height/injector placement in those carbon trumpets because they dont want to give away their secrets to other V8 Supercar teams.
How would you seal the bottom off any airbox? Seems to run any type of box or phemun box your going to have to make a baseplate. With those velocity stacks positioned the way they are it's not possible. I see making a custom base plate with a boss on top and bottom the same dia. as the runners and in the same place as the intake runners and place it between the throttle body and the velocity stacks. Its already got a piece of hose there. With a baseplate with a bolt pattern flange around it like a oil pan. Then you have options on size and a good sealing surface to work off of. I've also seen individual velcity stack filters that fit on the lip of the stack, not sure of flow. Nice motor...
