Using Ernies step process as an over view I am beginning my E/O. I am taking lots of bfore/after pictures during this process. It should be mentioned here as well that garage preparations should be made as well such as: adequate shelving to contain the parts, rolling tool trays, creeper, rolling stool tape for labeling hoses and connection points also digital camera. Starting pics tomorrow
very smart. look forward to following your thread and success. I do not know how many times I have taken something apart off my motorcycle, car or boat...waited months and then forgot how it went back together.
Nice work Fman. Thats the way to do it. I brought home 100 little plasitc bags so I can put all the appropriate bolts in them and label them so I know where they go when its time to put the engine back in. In saying that, I havent got my engine out yet. But yeah, when I do I will be prepared. Looking forward to seeing pics.
Go for it Jeff! I was similarly prepared...but in the heat of battle (with the engine) chaos eventually won, parts ended up everywhere! But labeled bags were a huge help...as were detailed pictures of everything BEFORE taking stuff off. And lots of labels on wires! Good luck, looking forward to pictures!
I am sure looking forward to that.......just passed no 8 in Ernie´s schedule...... .....in my first engine out as well..... //B//

Excellent! Jeff, I'm about to start on my 30K service also. Just ordered the parts from Daniel and new headers from Fabspeed. I'll follow everything you do, so don't make any mistakes : ) and keep the pictures coming, please. Randy

It is a '97. It only has 1800k since the major but It looks like I lost a valve so I'm doing a swap with my other '97 for this one and putting a '95 engine and set up in the other one which we are building the hardtop for.
Yes this is the one. As far as the top goes, it is a removable hardtop that I am building. Check out the "everyone with a 348/355 spider" thread.
Slowly but surely working through the e/o. I have a question for those that know. I have Tubi cats and as a result of whatever happened to my engine it appears that I have taken one out. After removing it, It had the familiar rattle and when I looked inside it looked like I took a blow torch to the centre. Q: I have spare cats but I would like to drill these out and hollow them. Is this straight forward? Q: Once hollowed, will I have the engine codes show up etc?
Jeff 1.- Why not hollow out the cats that you already have but are damaged? No use in wasting an otherwise good cat. 2. - I assume that if you are hollowing out the cats you are going to use the car off-road only? Or maybe you live where you don't have to take part in an emission testing program? The only reason I ask is that I have re-installed exhaust systems from the manifold back for the purpose of passing Ontario's Drive Clean program. Funny thing though 2 years later we have to do the same thing over again.
Jeff Question- I am not that familiar with the 355. How many oxygen sensors does it have? Are there o2 sensors after the cat's ?
