    Very good post.

I own Diesel and they do have this high crotch problem - also Diesel apparently thinks a lot of people are skinny twigs because a guy who does squats can't fit in 60% of their jeans (some other brands are worse!)

I said this earlier - ZATINY is a solid pick.

and how does he make holesin the crotch is beyond me. Never seen this happen and every one of my friends wears D

I'd say the most i've ever spent on a pair of jeans is $35.

Most fashion designers were not thinking of me when sizing their clothes. I'm tall, xl large bone build and broad shoulders. If I was a hair taller or larger i'd have to order all of my clothes out a cataloge. I did have custom made shirts and they are a wonderful investment. I paid 175-225 each.

Most I spent on jeans is pair of Kiton which was $895... I also love Rock&Republic which run north of $340 and Diesels.. But the Kitons are the most comfortable jeans ever made.. Brioni and Borrelli make decent jeans too..

i usually spend $200-300 on jeans.

i'm not some fashion nut but i'm young and like to dress well.

i mean different strokes for different folks, but it's funny to see guys who spend hundreds of thousands on a car shocked at the price of blue jeans.

    come on now.

The jean shop NYC, $400. They are by far the best jeans out there. No odd dies and patterns, very subtle. Evisu are great, but very hard to find without any logos or paint on the pockets.

You bought a used pair of jeans for $3K?

If that's your thing and you like em then that's cool, but personally, I would never do it.

    As for me...maybe $150 for a pair.

I can't even remember the last time I wore jeans. Khakis pretty much every day for me. I tried on a nice pair of jeans at brooks brothers the other day and they felt so uncomfortable; I've forgotten the stiffness of jeans!

You're obviously wearing the wrong jeans then :)
Plenty of modern "designer" and even some non-designer brands are using much softer and lighter denims. One of my favorite pairs of jeans is a pair of D&Gs with such light and soft denim I can't even believe they're actually jeans.

Though they are not who you would think of for jeans, Lacoste just put out a new line that is great. I picked up a pair for $130, super comfortable and look good in a subtle way

I LOVE jeans. I've had everything from levis to rock n republics and everything in between. I still don't think I've paid over 300 for jeans. I think anything north of that is silly. I love sevens, they seem to last forever. True Religion makes a quality jean, but my absolute favorite are from a company called Nudies. Found them recently at a boutique north of chicago for about 160, hand made in italy from dry selvege (sp?) denim. They are all about wearing the hell out of them and distressing them naturally over time. Highly recommend them.

Stupid question from a non-fashionista...since Levi Straus invented the jean, why wear anything else...the others are just "replicas"...get any cross thread points? While the Bill's Khakis fit well and look decent, they do not wear well in my experience...for khakis, the old military surplus were the best...still are if you can find them. But back to jeans, wouldn't be caught dead in ANY of the low rise, embroidered girl type jeans some soy drinking metrosexual is pushing on men these days.

So they're more like a collector's item than a piece of clothing...makes sense. I'd like to know what made them cost so much, if you don't mind.

And True Religion/Rock & Republic go hand in hand with Affliction/Ed Hardy.

I cringe whenever I see people wearing True Religions.

I buy Billabong jeans. They are really comfortable and they cost AU $100 a pair here in Australia. :):)

I own 4 pairs, but one pair is nearly worn out. Ive had them the longest, over 4-5 years now. I only just bought the last 3 pairs in the last 12 months. :):)

So they should all last me 10 yrs if I wear them randomly. I wear jeans out nearly every weekend when I go out/parties etc..etc. :):)

Really cool store, cool story and cool people. These guys make Ralph Lauren Black label jeans for RL, do custom repairs/sewing, custom fit vintage levis on some very large celebrities (including RL, Bono and many others) and have their own private label jeans.

and the intro is just really cool and worth watching...it will make you smile.

They are likely early 1900's original Levi's. They will regularly go for 3k plus. If they don't get used they will likely go up in value. The Japanese in particular go nuts for these.

As for me, keep it under $500 and I'm cool. I like my True Religions many of which I own are $320-350.
