Noob to the board, and huge fan of the 355. imho, the one and only true f1 street car.

Can anyone tell me the color of the attached? seller called it barchetta red, but me thinks that's not accurate, because i've seen barchetta reds here on this board that are in the brighter hue.

    Any guidance appreciated. ~Parker

I agree with the seller that called Barchetta Red or in Italian Rosso Barchetta

So ferrari calls the dark red rosso barchetta? It's absolutely stunning. How rare is this darker red compared to the brighter red 355s (rosso corsa)?

I'm on a personal pilgrimage for a 99 or 98 355 f1 berlinetta in this color. Impossible dream?

That colour can look various colours depending on the light source. Sometimes it looks brighter sometimes darker. Its the true Ferrari red, well actually its an Alfa Romeo colour from the 1940?? And used on the first racing Alfa/Ferraris.
They used the colour until 1997 IIRC, but could still be special ordered. On the spider version the colour was only used for one year from 1995-6 again IIRC. Again unless specially ordered. So the rarest version is indeed a spider version. Although they did paint one or two special edition 1999 F355 Fiorano spiders, but i don't know if they were special ordered or a factory decision.

    Yeah, that's Rosso Barchetta alright.

If it's that '98 Berlinetta from Gary Bobileff, at least it's coming from a shop with very good reputation.

Good luck getting the car. It looks sharp.

Here is another picture of Rosso Barchetta (not the same car but just for showing color).

The one in that second pic is MY '98 355F1, pic taken at Cars & Coffee in Irvine. Indeed, this is Rosso Barchetta, and there are seriously few of these later ('98 and '99) cars around in this color. Mine has a crema interior. There is a near-twin of my car which occasionally makes an appearance at C & C, but with a tan interior and drilled discs (though not larger brakes, just drilled). Both are '98 F1 cars. Last I saw my car's twin, it still had stock headers and cats, so if this is the one at Bobileff's, this may need to be addressed. Usually I tell people who are looking for a 355 to find a sorted one in whatever color is acceptable to them. However, if you are truly set on finding a 355F1 in this particular color, you may have to buy what you can find and sort out any items like the manifolds, cats, etc. Still wouldn't buy anything with bad leakdown or compression numbers, so PPI still a must.

As to the color, I have had my car nearly 3 years now, and just love it! The darker red still says "Ferrari", but in a much more subtle way than the usual Rosso Corsa. If you plan on driving the car a lot (and you should!) then you will definitely appreciate the more understated red. You Rosso Corsa drivers out there know what I'm talking about. As was stated in an earlier post, this red looks darker when not in direct sunlight, and VERY dark at night. This may account for what appears to be variations in the color.

Good luck with the pursuit of your dream car... it's out there. Buy it and drive it!

    John

Congrats John for beating me to the punch. :) Nice sled, and my first choice color. Nero Black a distant second.

The Bobileff 355 is manual unfortunately, so my search continues. Needless to say John, if you ever plan to sell, you know who to contact. ;) Ya I know, not anytime soon.

sambomydog – that's a nice piece of history re rosso barchetta. I knew I've come to the right Ferrari board.

I have many more questions on 355F1s for the panel here. For ie; I've heard the cam belt needs to be changed ever 3 years, regardless of mileage. True? If so, what's the cost so I can start a cam belt savings account now before I get the car. :D
