PAP WTF??? Get driving that beauty, it's GOOD for the belts, not to mention good for the soul! :D

I'm sticking with 4-5 yrs for a change...if I bend valves before this, well that's a small risk I'm taking, it could happen. But *most* are just fine at 4-5 yrs.

I know I know mate. Have been TOOOOOOOOO busy. :D:D

But, I tell ya. Its half because I am a slack ass also.:eek:

Its a little bit of a mission getting the car out now with the new puppy. Its always a mission getting the car out, but now with the pup a little more. I have to place 10 20 cm x 20 cm building blocks under the back gate so she doesnt crawl out from underneath. :):)

Soooooooooooooooooo, I have to now chain her up. Open garage door. Remove blocks from under back gate. Open back gate. Drive Ferrari out, park Ferrari. Walk inside, close the back gate. Replace the blocks again then let dog off the leash. :D:D

Then I have to repeat that process when I want to bring the car back in after my 20 min drive. It takes just as long to get the car in and out now as I do driving it. :p:p

But when I build my new garage, there will be no excuses and I will drive the Ferrari EVERY days off. :D:D

The final number on the estimate looks like the redline stat on a motorcycle engine.

You don't have to rebuild it, though it just cost me $6,000 to rebuild mine after my belt jumped two teeth back in 2006, and that included paying $1,000 to have my heads machined. To cut your costs on this option you've got to shop around for the parts (gasket prices add up!), such as using Dick Jordan to rebuild your waterpump for less than $200 as opposed to paying $800+ for a new OEM unit. New valves can be had for as little as $40 each if you find the right seller (348 valves were used on at least one other non-Ferrari car). You can't just go pay $100 each for your 28 busted valves and get out cheap. Gotta shop around.

Another option is to purchase a working engine (e.g. from a 348 that was in a front-end collission, or from a shop that has rebuilt one already and has it in storage). Start with Eurospares: http://www.eurospares.co.uk/breaking.asp and contact all of the major vendors such as Ricambi: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/ , FerrParts: http://www.ferrparts.com/ , Denniss McCann: http://www.allferrariparts.com/parts_list.php , Superformance: http://www.superformance.co.uk/348_a.htm , T.Rutland's: http://www.trutlands.com/ , Pro-Sport: http://www.prosport-ferrari.co.uk/index.php/Engines-and-Gearboxes/View-all-products.html , and even eBay/Craigslist.

A third option is to install a non-Ferrari motor in it (perhaps even with a non-Ferrari transmission). This option isn't for purists and will probably cost you in resale, but the flip side is that you might be able to procure more horsepower and reliability for less money. Not a bad way to go if she's going to be a track mule, or if you are never planning to sell her. Visit a race shop to explore this option, as they will have years of building track cars from various combinations of parts.

You actually mean that valves of the same dimension are used in another type of car. Ferrari did not supply 348 valves to another manufacturer, or even share details with another manufacture :).

Why you guys even look for production engine valves or genuine suprises me?. I'd go to a good quality race engine builder and get them to source stainless steel valves that they use in their race engines ... they can be made/purchased in any size you like.

Ferrari engines are just engines, and if these S/S valves can be used in race engines that rev all day long to over 9000 rpm (as my little non-Ferrari club car did, and I'm sure they will go much higher) then your less stressed Ferrari engine will do fine.

The valves going into RebelBanker's car are from an extremely high-end manufacturer, who also frequents Fchat. They are 1/3 the price of Ferrari, and the same ones which are in my 348.
