    Hi All,

I have decided to spend New Year in Vegas. We usualy do somewhere in Europe, but after many years of thinking 'I must go to Las Vegas, it looks so cool' I convinced some friends to go.

I like to get an idea of a place before I go, I hate getting somewhere and being disapointed, so please don't let me down :)

Basically, I want the full Vegas experience, I have seen 'The Hangover' and I want those kind of views from a room. I don't want to have to mortgage the home so I won't be buying the MGM, but my budget is fairly accomodating to the worlds best hotels so I hope to get somthing decent.

We will be staying 5ish nights and there are 8 of us in total, so I'm preparing myself for 2 suites.

Any guidance as far as hotels are concerned, must see attractions or clubs, hell even if you are just going to be there let me know, we are a nice bunch and don't bite, just keep me away from Ferrari related parifinalia, I tend to buy stupid things when I'm drunk*

    Many thanks in advance

    Mike

*Thinks back to a drunken night in Athens, ending up with a Mercedes

The Wynn is nice just make sure you get a strip view. We stayed at Trump last new years with a strip view (east side corner) the room is great since it had a little kitchen area (frig, mirowave, etc.) since you'll be there a few nights. Both of those will put you right on the north end of all the crazy people on the strip..:) City Center is also open now and right in the heart of the strip. We stayed at Vadra (city center) opening night it's pretty nice but off to the back of the strip. Good luck!!

Encore has the best rooms (and you walk down to the lobby to see Ferraris!!!). Not to mention that within the Wynn/Encore, you'll experience the best service-value in Vegas. Leaving their building is always a let down to me. The views from Encore tower are not as diverse, but the entire side of your room is glass - no small windows like some of the older hotels. It is very impressive.

Certain rooms at Planet Hollywood have the excellent views (you see the Eiffel tower & Bellagio fountains from your bed) & your surrounded by great shopping, and can easily walk to Bellagio (must see their greenhouse displays) or Aria (latest megacasino to open). If you've seen "What Happens In Vegas", this is the hotel they stayed at.

Prices might be better if you make reservations via blastoff or expedia... but perhaps your UK accent would help to persuade the agent on the phone... might want to call & personally reserve a special room, see if the accent & story get you anywhere (but then again, they regularly get people from all over).

The movie was set at Caesar's, which is pretty much in the center of the strip.

If you want a great view looking north, then THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay is a good spot. Just make sure you ask for a North looking view as high as you can get. THE Hotel on the south end of the strip but it has a complete view of the strip looking north. There's a bar on the top call Mix which has a great view.

    http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/mixlounge.aspx

I personally like the Madalay bay but it is at the bottom of the strip. So, it's near the airport and too far to walk to most other casino's aside from Luxor.

I personally would not recommend Trump. There's no casino and no where to walk from it. The best part of the strip is going from place to place.

The best hotels are Bellagio, Encore and Wynn but many others including the Venetian, Pallazo, Mirage, and Caesar's. I haven't had a chance to check out Citycenter yet. Cesaers probably has the best overall shopping mall but Bellagio has more high end stuff.

I would suggest booking early. New Years is the most popular time and also just after it is the CES show which is the largest convention of the year. The two put a lot of pressure on what you can get -- and it won't be cheap.

Must see... one of the Cirque de Soleil shows -- especially the Beatles Love at the Mirage. But, there are many to choose from. I've heard good things about Jersey Boys at the Venetian. Stay away from the Chris Angel show at the Luxor.

For viewing ladies, I would say Spearment Rhino is probably the best and most classy. Other nice clubs are Sapphire, Treasures, and Rick's. If you want something more decadent and a definately a lot less classy, the Olymipic Garden is more of your place. Drinking is allowed in Vegas strip clubs so.....

When it comes to restaurants, there are too many to talk about. It depends on your type but I can recommend Nobu at the Hard Rock for authentic suishi and sashimi. I've eaten at Auroele in Mandalay Bay and it has a most impressive wine list if that is your thing.

    Have fun!

Yes, but you have to ask for it. Across the street is Paris, Bally's and Planet Hollywood. It also gives you a view of the fountain show. I'm sure they ask for more for that view.

Bellagio is a great hotel. I particularly like the interior and the casino. The staff is first rate.

Here's a good map to get your bearings:

Click on reservations. You can book everything online. If you want the view of the strip and the water show, you need to book a "Lakeview" room.

You can also book on Expedia.com.

"O" is the Cirque de Soleil show at Bellagio. I've seen it and it's very impressive.

Bellagio is looking better & better. You'll get a view of the new PH towers, and be able to walk next door to Aria!!!

I'm going to check out Citycenter this weekend. It looks awesome. Watching it go up over 5 years was pretty amazing.

Bellagio is a very fine hotel/casino. You can't go wrong. My mother was there last week and said the Christmas decorations are up and look fantastic. I can tell you they do a really great showing for Chinese New Year.

I just came back from vegas after the grand opening of 2 of the casinos. I went to dinner at Beso, which was superb, at the Crystals. I had the lobster bisque to start, a 10oz filet mignon, and some mash. The meal is definitely worth it. Make reservations!!!

The architecture is amazing an definitely blows any other hotel out of the water by far. However, there is no casino at this hotel. Make sure you get a taxi driver who knows how to get to the right place. It took our taxi driver 15 minutes to find the entrance. Mind you, we got a cab ride from Planet Hollywood, which is directly across the street. Yes, I know we should've walked, but it was 45 outside. Its freakin cold this time a year, It didn't get over 55!!

If you get a chance, go to the Del Toro dealer at the Palazzo. I "test drove" a Ferrari F430 for a fee, which lasted 50 minutes.

Back to the restaurants, I would recommend the restaurant located in the Eiffel Tower and Boa at Caesars Palace.

    Have a good time!

****They have a tram that runs from the Monte Carlo - City Center - Bellagio****

    I forgot about this thread!

I booked with Bellagio, it looks great and returning to this thread confirmed I made a fantastic choice. For the amount of people going, we couldnt all get the views we wanted, only one suite is without though, so not too bad considering the late notice, I got the Lakeview Suite, supposedly the best view so I look forward to it!

I will be sure to follow the hints and advise from you guys, I will be sure to check out 'O' also.

    Regards

    Mike

Can you post some pics of your Lakeview Suite views if you get a chance and let us know what sort of time you had in Vegas.
