2010 997 Turbo 0-60 in 3 seconds!

That is seriously quick, they kinda faked my out with the speedo in KM/h and the reading in MPH.

 

...and all w/o any fanfare. The PDK is quick.

That PDK transmission is absolutely seamless and smooth in regular mode too!! I drove my first PDK cars yesterday (a Cayman and a Panamera S)...VERY NICE! I can only imagine how AWESOME my 928's would be had they continued to evolve and progress...with today's technology the 928 would be a 599 fighter (if Porsche wanted it to be anyway)...

Stunning -- can't wait to drive a PDK-equipped car. Sounds like the 997 Turbo is already a 599 fighter, if not a bit quicker.

Porsche took their time moving to a dual-clutch system, but apparently they knew what they were doing...

 

No matter how good PDK is, I think a Porsche with anything but a true 6MT is sacrilegious.

Maybe, but now that the technology genie is out of the bottle it's hard to argue with a flat six that hits 60 in Enzo time.

There are plenty of older Porsches around for those who want tradition, and frankly all the newer cars are so tech-laden that a manual gearbox is starting to look like a deliberate anachronism.

I often equate such modern tech cars (fascinating, yes) to the so called bullet train in Japan (TGV in France ?) which is amazingly fast, smooth and everything else, except uninvolved ...versus ...steam (coal) locomotives, which are noisy, dirty, nowhere near lightning fast, but viscerally invloving and so entertaining. w/ smiles Jimmy

Nothing against the improving technologies and pursuit of excellence and speed, but that is not for me. Thanks for the compliment. I, like you, enjoy those cars that pull you in and engage your sences. Your every move, the car's "physical" feedback from it's every move and off course the sounds that come with the experiance is what gets me. The stats to me are secondary. Your Dino for example will always win out over any of the modern Fcars, but yet it's not as powerful with it's 6 cyl powerplant.

I agree with your point about wanting something 'engaging'...However, when i want to get somewhere fast, but absolutely do not want to arrive tired, deaf, and suffering from smoke inhilation, i will take that 'uninvolved' ride 100% of the time.

Why is an F1-type gearbox more fun than a dual clutch? I thought they were both paddle shift, no clutch pedal, etc.

 

trapping at 122 in the 1/4 mile for 500 hp seems kinda weak no?
