My friend just had a major service done on his Ferrari at a shop on Lacienega and the bill was near $7000.00 USD but the bill was only one line with no other items. No parts listed no service details. nothing but said Major Service. Would you be concern about what they performed?

You mean a very very vague receipt like this one here?

Yes, I would be worried too.
No Parts List, no Detailed Outline of Work Performed, I suppose you didn't see your old parts, I suppose you didn't see the Work in Progress.

    Am I Right?

Yes, Standard Operating Procedure over there, unfortunately.

    Thankfully, this individual was only charged a Quantity of " 1 " . :)

I suggest just asking for a more detailed invoice.

California laws on ALL auto repair businesses require all parts and their numbers be written on the invoice. Plus a brief detail of each labor operation performed. Parts are taxable, labor is not, so they must be shown separetely. You could try calling them and asking for a proper invoice so you will have a more complete record for you cars history. The customer must be given a written estimate prior to the repairs, and it must be signed. No signed estimate means the customer cannot be charged for any unauthorized repairs. If you want to take this to the next level, just call the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. Those guys live for these kinds of invoices. Good Luck, Rick

At least you got a receipt. This past Sept I had a belt and cam cover repair service at F & M Motorsports in Santa Monica and I never got a receipt. I called Giuseppe four times approximately every two weeks after picking up the car and then wrote him a letter formally requesting the receipt last month. Nothing.

I've since moved on to the Auto Gallery for service and am very pleased with Travis and David over there:).

Looking more closely at the them.
Looks like their CA BAR License expired on 11/30/09. Not good.

And, no owners are listed to the business.

The subject Automotive Repair Dealer is currently breaking the law everyday by not having a current BAR license. It is ILLEGAL to be touching cars at all.

    Not good.

Status Definition according to CA BAR.
The licensee can engage in the practice of automotive repair (or Smog inspections – which ever is appropriate) Prior To the License Expiration Date. IMPORTANT NOTE: If status is VALID, the license could still carry restrictions from a disciplinary action. Please contact the Bureau for further information.

I am curious if this is a receipt that an actual car owner received, or if it was included in the purchase of a car as "proof" that a service was performed.

I am asking because that invoice is so bad, that I actually can't imagine a shop owner using it. There are fields required by the state of CA to be included on repair forms, and that invoice doesn't have them. In fact it looks like someone could have just made it up on Quickbooks.

Is there a total at the bottom? There seems to be some photoshop in the pic. The invoice will not be stamped paid unless there is an offsetting payment in the field.

As far as operating without a BAR permit, this is a bigger non-no than you have said. It is illegal to charge someone money to work on their car without a permit. If they have collected money without a permit, they can EASILY be required to refund what was paid for services.

However, I would not put to much stake into the validity of what you see on the internet. I firmly believe that many CA state workers are engaged in a work slowdown to protest "The Furloughs", and I would be surprised if that website was up to date.

It would be prudent to also check the status of the resale license at CA State Board of Equalization. Check these licenses over the phone, they are very helpful.

The paperwork shown is an original, received from the owner, who paid for the service.

The name of the owner, car model, etc, was blanked out for privacy reasons.

There seem to be different definitions of "major service", depending on the mechanic.

I know that if you had Eugenio do the "major service", you would have received photos and descriptions by e-mail of ALL work being performed at each stage, as well as advice related to the service. Yes, you would have received a very detailed invoice, which will be helpful to the next person considering the purchase of your Ferrari. And, his fee is very reasonable. No, he will NEVER perform or suggest any service that is not necessary.

BTW, I recently sold my Ferrari so I am no longer his customer. However, when I buy my next one, you can bet I want Eugenio to throughly go over the car before I drive it, even if the car is still under factory warranty. Its the only way I will own and drive a Ferrari.

Even though I miss my Ferrari, its my friendship with Eugenio that I will miss more.

They should not be using customer's cars for such activities.

Enzo would not be happy. :(

Just a suggestion, you need to read more slowly.

The OP is one complaint. He paid $7k. The posted invoice in #4 is yet another complaint all together. He paid $5k.
Read slowly now, two entirely seperate complaints.

So, you're admitting, you only give out detailed invoices to those that ask, even though it's the law. Wowzers!

    Your response is very unprofessional.

    We need more suggestions.

Based on those videos alone - why would you take your car there, unless you want it to be used in a student's video project? Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone who posts a video of F cars feels compelled to replace the sound of the engines with (oftentimes) really bad music...? Someone please post a video of just the cars, the sound of the exhaust and maybe a few hot chicks for good measure!

im not from blackhorse motors im just a long time friend and customer thats willing to question slanderous statements.and i thank you for correcting me about the separate posts i failed to observe but i reacted like most who disagree on something they feel unjust.but of course this is the internet where everybody can say,be or post whatever they wish about others.and people think its true!!especially those that fail to say who they are, where they are from,if they even own a Ferrari,if their dog likes them, etc but fortunately there are far more people that know the truth..
