Well I am in the midst of removing my engine cradle from my ’97 355 to do a major service. I have found the 355 to be more complex and less user friendly than my 348 was to do the same tasks. The easy stuff is done. I am hoping to get some tips and help regarding the hard tasks ahead.
    1. Power Steering Lines. Look tough to access.
    2. Fuel Lines. What and where do I disconnect?
    3. Coolant Hoses. From the very helpful tips regarding installation of the Coolant Hoses I think I will loosen and remove what I can. When the assembly drops the remaining hoses will disconnect at that time. Good idea?
    4. A/C disconnect at the pump housing. Appears simple.
Downloaded a wonderful tutorial from the site that has been invaluable. Just looking for those golden suggestions that save immense time, broken knuckles and expense!
    Thanks!

Athough I can't offer technical assistance, I can offer moral support and encouragement - good luck with the job and keep us posted with pics and descriptions of each stage!!!

Well, you seem to know what you're doing so all I can do is confirm...yes, there are some tricky points.

Power steering - pain in the ass! Too close to firewall, I couldn't get a wrench on there to loosen the connection (bad angle). I ended up disconnecting the OTHER end at the pump and snaking the hose through. I was going to just cut the @#$! thing until I checked the replacement cost.

Fuel supply - on my 5.2 I disconnected at the single fuel filter

Coolant - yup, loosen as best you can, free any stuck hoses with a screwdriver and take them off as you take the engine out.

A/C - you got it, pretty straightforward. Just make sure it's evacuated ;)

The power steering isnt too bad to get to, just a pain because they are usally very tight. We use open end wrench that has a slight bend to it to make it a little smoother. Good luck

The only thing I found hidden on my engine out was a little ground wire (black) attached the oil tank, very hard to see. My car is a challenge version which has a different tank than yours but you should check anyway. I lower the cradle down a few inches at a time and look around to see how things are lining up or unlining up :D anyway that is how I found the wire, on the 3rd or 4th lowering stage.

yup I tried everything on that PS line, 2 wrenches just as shown but she wouldn't budge! Even after the engine was out it took a ton of torque to get that thing loosened, tightened by Godzilla apparently.

+1 on that small black ground wire under the oil tank...and don't forget to re-connect it on install ;)

Thanks guys. AC is done, power steering connections tonight, with some success I hope! Thanks for the tip on the oil tank connection, I would have missed that.
The only fuel connection is at the filter top? Looked like a 2nd line was required, cannot tell where it originates, down at the fuel tank base?. Mine is a US 5.2 as well. Maybe I am mistaken. No sense creating work!
Disconnect the main ECU connections and pass through the firewall.
Drop the assembly. Then the real work begins!

Great job! :) Are you using a scissor-type lift?

I wonder if a box wrench plus a crow-foot wrench to supply torque would be good to loosen the PS line?

Likewise, I was wondering if brakeline wrenches would work. Then, slip a pipe over the end of each wrench and you should have sufficient torque and leverage to break it loose.

I am using a BendPak scissor lift. I don't have sufficient headroom in my garage for a standard 2 post lift. Great tool!
