Alarm seems to be working fine. Beeps twice, tug the handle, NADA. Handle won't move, doors won't open. You can hear the lock unlocking when I hit the remote.

Windows crack when I pull the handle, but the handle just won't budge.

Had the car out today, everything worked fine.

Is there a chance that the locks are frozen? It's about 25 degrees right now, car is in the driveway, where I left it after today's drive.

Man, this is pissin' me off.

Gonna go pour some warm/hot water on the door, see if that frees it up.

    Oh, BOTH DOORS.

    CRAP,

    Any suggestions are welcome!!

Do not pour water on the door/lock. It'll only be worse tomorrow.

Do you have a hair dryer with a long enough cord? If the lock is frozen, you can get enough gentle heat from a Conair to do the trick.

(Why do you suspect they're frozen? Was the car wet?)

be careful with warm/hot water... the temp difference from the ice cold window and the hot water hitting it could possibly shatter the glass also could add to the problem tomorrow am. if possible wait for the sun to hit it or move inside warm garage then spray down latch with water displacement 40...(wd 40)

    Here's some added info.

I got the window to crack open by tugging gently on the door handle, then used a hangar to open the door with the inside handle, so the car is at least back in the garage for the night.

But, if the locks were frozen, would the inside handle work?

and yes, I can put a hair dryer on it tomorrow, but now that the car is in the garage, it'll get the benefit of the 10-15 degrees warmer it is in there, maybe solving the problem.

    We'll see in the AM.

    Well, duh, of course not.

Geez, don't try and come up with a simple solution.

Off to the garage, report back in 60 seconds.

    Yup, and nope. No good.

Almost seems electrical. Had both door lock cables replaced last year, so at least I know it's not the dreaded rusty cable problem.

Well, not really, but it's been pretty rainy/humid last couple of days and now is MUCH colder.

WD-40 into the lock itself should do the trick,

If you tried to force them a few times you may have dislodged the connecting rods on the opener. I'd open up the panel of one door to check.

this happened to my brother about two months ago. honestly no great explanation but it almost seemed as though he "confused" the system by hitting the remote so many times and it took time t5o re-set because it worked fine the next morning. it's almost like when u forget your password and keep logging in to a computer acct, it just locks you as out as deault. this may or may not be correct.

Can you raise the temp in your garage (in the area of the car) any way - maybe a few 100 w light bulbs reflected (at a safe distance) toward the door area? Do you have a kerosene heater you can monitor (watch the bowl games with lots of fleece on) and get the ambient temp up? Weird things seem to happen when you warm different parts at different rates.

WD-40 is awesome for lock unfreezes and may free part "A" but if parts "B" - "Z" are still cold, ***** happens.

Ask me about the Peugeot 504 wagon I burned up (literally) in my driveway during a cold snap in the late 70's........frozen door lock...and yes, alcohol was involved...bloody mary's as I recall

    UPDATE.

Doors are now fixed. Here's how I did it.

Let the car sit for two days. Called Algar made a service appointment.

Threaten car with flat bedding and no fluid change this year.

Let car stew on the possibilities of being mistreated by a tow guy and ignored by the service mechanic and POOF!! Problem solved, doors now work just fine.

    I have no other explanation.

I'm glad you did not have to resort to the "snow blanket" treatment :).

Well, every silver lining has a black cloud...

Now the car works fine. I'm happy, the car is happy, but the dealer, who just lost out on a service call during the slow season, is not so happy...

Actually, they're fine, maybe a little disappointed, as they had never seen this problem before and were really looking forward to diggin' into the electronics of the car and finding what was causing it.

The service writer was stumped when I told him about the problem, and equally amused when I told him that threatening the car solved it.
