I'd like to see the rest of this guy's garage. Looks like he has a yellow Enzo next to the F1 car.

Ok - I need to know where this is! Very rare to see a car with the Marlboro livery (which looks so much better; all of my 1:18 have the Marlboro decals)

I'm starting to like you. :)

All my 1/18 cars had the Marlboro livery as well. Courtesy of ebay.

Looking at the picture I'd say it is somewhere in Italy, probably around Monza or Maranello. The fact they have the real livery is somewhat meaningless: This is Italy and I doubt it is illegal to hang a car on the ceiling with tobacco ads on it.

What surprises me more is to see a Ferrari F1 hanging from the ceiling. They're so expensive to begin with. I'm guessing this is one of the showcar replicas originally used for advertising, made of fibreglass and wood. Still very cool.

PS: Popquiz: Can you name the place where a Ferrari 333 is hanging from the ceiling? ;)

Which also begs the question; how much does a show car cost ?
I would love one to have in my barn; talk about a great conversation piece!

Occasionally you can find one on ebay. They aren't cheap. Last time I checked I saw something in the range of 20k to 40. You could probably build one yourself for that money.

Fibreglass and wood?, I know that the showcar replica McLaren supplies to our company when required is made of Genuine Carbon fibre parts for the tub, body and wings. (The front wing was proved to be carbon fibre when one of the neanderthals that work for our company stepped on it and snapped a piece off. McLaren went back to the factory to get a replacement wing).
We are (to My shame! ) one of McLarens official partners but I doubt that makes a difference to the showcar supplied.
Most tend to be made from spare or damaged/repaired tubs that can't be raced ever again, fitted with other parts that are at the end of their natural lifespan for racing attached, as I'm aware.

    Ok, thanks for that update.

The one I was looking at on ebay some years ago was indeed made out of wood (chasis) and fibreglass body. In the description they stressed that it can't be used for driving. Duh!

To be fair, I have seen a few "showcars" on ebay that have been built by private individuals in their own workshop/garages that were made of fibreglass and wood etc. A couple of them were reasonably good but the majority of them would have a hard time fooling Stevie Wonder.

As I say, I know McLaren use genuine worn out/damage repaired parts in their show cars and I'm pretty certain Ferrari do too. Not sure about the other teams though. I certainly wouldn't have put it past Eddie Jordan in his day to claim a fibreglass replica was a genuine raced showcar. I remember hearing him say after one of his cars was involved in a bad crash at the A1 ring in Austria one year, that he wanted all the pieces of carbon fibre found so he could sell them on ebay as souvenirs!. :D

IMO, they are interesting garage decor and that's about it. Jim said it right on regarding these things. Just getting the thing running correctly and started requires factory assistance or assistance from one who already knows how it operates. Tires, suspension set up for the track in question, how many hours does the engine last? Is the driver able to use it, I mean really use it? My gosh if someone wants to use this things half a dozen times a year, a small army would have to be employed to make sure it is going correctly. I suppose the factory has cliente assistance programs, but the price to keep it going for a season might be as high or higher than the price of the car.

How cool would it be to show up at your local Auto-X with an ex-F1 car. Then again it would even be cooler if you brought your own pit-babe crew too.
