After 1 year of picking up the kids from school, let me say about 20 times, no cop has ever stopped me... so i will keep enjoying this with the kids... may be one more year because if you compare this photo with the one from previous year you can tell that probably next year they will not fit anymore ! snif

I will send you pics of the seat belt and cushions installed if interested...

I'm not worried about the cops, or a ticket. I'm worried about my children's safety. I'll pass and suggest everyone else do the same.

 

DEATHTRAP!!!!!! No headrests for the "rear seat" passenger. 100% Illegal and unsafe. As far as the seatbelts go, are they structurally anchored and tested per the current standards or did you just install them yourself?

I agree with the previous poster, don't worry about the cops, worry about the site of your child's body crunched in the back there if in an accident!

There is a reason the car is a 2 seater, because anything else would be unrealistic and UNSAFE!

Illegal: The child must be in a car seat, and if not in a car seat... the child must be seated and seat belts buckled (seat backs and tray tables in the forward and locked positions). The child is seated, and has a seatbelt on. You probably are not going to get any tickets from police officers because of the laws that the directly enforce. CPS etc... thats a completely different ball game and very unlikely to occur unless of course you are getting a divorce LOL.

Safe: if you are just picking the kids of from school and then dropping them off at home, chances are you are driving in fairly residential areas, within a few miles of the school etc... likely hood of getting in an accident involving a significant amount of speed pretty low i'd say. We have all done worse things. Who hasn't ridden in the back of a pick up truck as a child, or ridden on the rear hat shelf or stood on the back seat etc... Now a days we know better, but we all did it at one point or another (again I am not condoning this kind of behavior for children. I am just saying we have all part taken in some pretty ridiculous and dangerous driving positions as children). Now if you are driving all over the planet with the kids in the ferrari and traveling on the highway etc... thats probably irresponsible and best suited for another vehicle. Driving your ferrari a 308 or 348 or even 355 at 100mph down the freeway is probably just as irresponsible and dangerous.

As far as people being concerned with the safety of the rear child being squished... the car would have to be rear ended at an incredible amount of speed with the ferrari at a full stop in order to collapse the area where the roll bars are and where the door attaches. This is actually probably one of the strongest areas of the car besides the brake pedal.

Again, is it wise and responsible... thats questionable... are you going to get a ticket? probably not. Would anyone ever actually try to sell this as a product, not without a gigantic legal air tight legal disclaimer and one of the largest insurance policies in the world. LOL

The child in the back is completely safe, unless the vehicle rolls over (and I doubt the driver is going to do any stunts with his kids in the car). There is minimal room for movement back there - child will probably have less injuries than in front.

 

Maybe for a 10 mph drive around my driveway.

 

The child in the back is completely UN-safe. What are you thinking? There are no restraints of any kind and the only padded surface is the back of the passenger seat which, I doubt, has been designed to provide any level of protection.

I'm not talking about flipping the car, in which case she's in big trouble... but a decent hit from any angle will have a bad result for the passenger in the space behind the seat.

To the OP... how do you choose which of your kids to put in such danger?

Why not? I don't think this place is worst than the front seats especially at low speed. There are much more risky things you can do with such a car. But I suppose that in case of injuries, the insurance would not cover it.

I'd love to see your pics of the of the seat belt and cushions you have installed there.

Why on earth is anyone posting any reply which in any way encourages this behaviour is totally beyond me.

Even in a quiet neighbourhood, all you need is one careless, or better yet drunk driver to hit the car with the child tucked behind the seat...game over.

Why anybody would take this kind of a risk with their own children is again beyond me.

This thread is proof positive that parenting should be licensed, parenting should NOT be a god given right.

Would I do it? No, but for the sake of argument is it any worse than riding in the back of a pick up, or on those stupid side facing seats that some extended cab compact pick ups have (eg Ford Ranger)? Also the kid is belted in just as well as she would be on a school bus.

Is it worst than riding in the back of an extended cab compact pick-up...not sure but I think, yes, probably worst.

Making any statement on a publlic forum that the child is safe where there is no seat, nor manufacturer's seat belt, is not wise, and certainly not safe for a child. Endorsing this could have serious and potentially deadly ramifications.

If Ferrari wanted you to have passengers back there they would have acommodated them accordingly.

 

Not saying I think this is a good idea, but I'll bet it still much safer than when parents take there kids on a motorcycle ride. And I'd venture to guess many of us have done that a time or two.

 

Yeah, but nobody knew any better BACK THEN either. It was one thing to stick an unbelted kid (more like 5 of us) in the way back of an Olds Vista Cruiser..... a 3,000 lb car that sits about the same height as an oil slick on a road is a totally different story. Not to mention doing 70MPH back then made your eyes water......

 

Nobody knowing back then is kinda BS. Its not rocket surgery to know that if you are unbuckled in any car weather it is a Truck or a car the most amount of injures are going to come from you ejecting out of your seat. A truck or a car seat does not hold you in any better when the car take a huge hit. (well it does, but the difference in the G rating would be so minimal compared to the actual amount experienced regardless) People have known its unsafe to ride around with kids in the back of the car unbuckled etc for a long time. I know there was a big anti-seat belt movement, but if you have ever put a vase in the back of your pick up truck without securing it... you found out why it was important to be strapped down in the car.

Again, I am not condoning this and would never do it personally...but I dont think it is as big of a deal as most people think.

I agree with you regarding licensing procreation. I used to not like kids, and then I had a realization of that I don't dislike the kids... I hate bad parents!!! However we live in a free country and wouldn't have it any other way. gotta take the good with the bad. This is the closest to UTOPIA we are gonna get.

Also, for those of you who mention a drunk driver hitting the car... that B pillar (just behind the door) is the strongest part of the car. you are almost safer there than sitting next to the door. Regardless, if you are in your ferrari, you dont want to get hit by a drunk driver regardless. These cars probably don't have the greatest of safety ratings.


All that being said... if you want an incredibly safe, fun to drive sports car, that you can haul your kids around in... by an M3...

 

There you are sitting at the stop lights, top down enjoying the sun, daughter in the back when along comes a truck whose driver is busy trying to send a text message on his mobile and misjudges the stopping distance by only a few feet.......

No matter how slowly, how carefully you drive the potential is always there to be taken out by someone who isn't concentrating.

not so much - the US auto nation as a whole was pretty clueless (non prioritied) on safety in the 60's. IIRC anchor points were a requirement by '62 but actual belts being attached to them as standard wasn't until '67 or even later..... drinking and driving, bias tyres, rt 301 (no hi speed 95), and not wearing seats belts were the predominant rule of the day (my mum's chevy II wagon didn't have any seat belts..I used to sleep across the front bench seat with my head on her lap....I can still "see" that steering wheel bottom moving back and forth inches above my head as I dozed on and off. I was essentially a depth charge loaded in the hopper.....

Please, trade your f-car for a California, Bentley GTC, DB9 Volante, M6 cab..... your kids will thank you....., they have not all a lot of space in the back but they are all a lot more safe than your F360 2+1!

 

My big problem is with the ice cream cone in my Ferrari. Just kidding but probably not a good idea.
