Pap, it wont be for at least 12 months, plus however long it takes to get back there and source the right car/s, and then another 3 months after that for all the export + compliance activities. Realistically not till the end of 2011, at the earliest.

As for colour, it depends on what comes up. They're not all perfect cars, particularly in the UK with the salt usage.

Anyway, before I actually pick one up, I'll make sure to touch base with you in advance.

Rob, under the personal import rules, you don't go though RAWS compliancing??? and apart from taxes there are no compliancing taxes??? Even with Raws costs, bringing in a 550 is looking very tempting at the moment

You need to learn to live life Pap. I grew up with some guys that were your age when they died of heart attacks or blood clots. One day here, next day gone. No warning or anything. And these were healthy, fit guys, not overweight, that were not touching alcohol or cigarettes.

    Hi Greg,
No, under personal import laws, there is no requirement for RAWS.

However, you cant just bring in anything. You must have lived overseas and owned the car for 12 months. The rules are very strict in the reading of them, however I've found them to be quite easy in the real world - I brought a Subaru 22B across from the UK in January 09, and to be honest, I really dont know what the fuss is about, besides having to move over there.

Actually, when you consider that most people in the position to buy a reasonably expensive car are probably married, with kids, with decent careers / businesses, its a pretty difficult situation to just up sticks and move. To me, that is the hardest part, not the actual part of buying the car itself.

Compliancing taxes? No, none. The car must comply with ADR's, but again, that was very simple. For my car, all they did was convert the speedo, and ensure the child safety hooks were accessible (they had been covered over by a mat on the rear parcel shelf). And that was it. Seriously, it could not have been easier.

I understand you're talking about a 550. But for my part, I think you're better off with a 360. Check:

    www.autotrader.co.uk
    www.parkers.co.uk
    www.redbook.com.au

I reckon that the cost to buy the cars in the UK are about the same, but the sale price in Aus is quite a bit higher for the 360. At least it was when I looked some time ago. If you want to do a 550 for your own reasons, great. f its financial, I think the 360 is the best bet right now.

Well Rob if you happen to get tempted over there to buy a CSL, I'll certainly be happy to take it off your hands when you're ready to sell. I remember seeing 360C's posts when he was selling his and frankly had never even heard of them. Having learnt more about them since then I have been repeatedly kicking myself for missing that opportunity. Pretty thin on the ground here (one for sale for $125K at the moment) but would easily pick one up for $40-50K over there at the moment.

While I think a 360 is the best outcome percentage-wise, it really does depend on what comes up at the time.

In the UK, beemers are called Black Mans Wheels, and they're held somewhat in contempt. Its very very difficult to find people who treat them well, partcularly when land is at such a premium, and garages are often converted into additional living space.

OTOH, Ferraris are more likely to be well kept (massive generalisation, I admit).

Still, we'll see what happens. I lived there for 6 years, and actually quite enjoyed it. When my house in Spain is finished, I'm about 99% sure I'll be heading back over to Europe and will hopefully park something nice in the garage. Just what you need for that view over the med, before and after playing a round of golf...

Only 23 CSL's were Oz delivered, England got over 400 and there were about 1400 in total made. So quite rare beasts, especially here. Resale here is poor regardless, people just have no idea what they are. The $125k one is ultra low mileage; but it is worth under $100k in my opinion.
Anyone who buys one and loves to drive will be stoked with their purchase.
I had mine for 5 yrs and 110,000 km's and remember it fondly (apart from crap resale from new).

I remember everyone's surprise at it being so slow and having so little extra power over a stock M3 on the dyno.

I also remember the 430 blowing you to the weeds. that was a good day.

It had 360 hp vs 340 if I recall correctly.
I had the wife in the CSL that particular day. As big a handicap as there is, most days.

I just prefer 550's. They seem to be listed for sale at 40-45GBP and the figure I come up with landed including RAWS costs is $120-130K. Most 550's in Aus seem to be listed at $160-180k and there arent that many to choose from anyway

was it that much? i remember them being identical curves until just the last few hundred revs....and then the CSL had more...I didn't think it was that much more...but I'm old and forget stuff.

Indeed, but I remember you being mightily impressed at the time, as we all were.

and now, only a few years later, a 430 gets murdered by a whole new generation of cars. weird.

    Too easy mate. ;);)

Cheers mate and thankyou for your concern. :D:D

Just because I aint buying my second Ferrari doesnt mean I aint living life. :p:p

I holiday where and when I want to. I buy whatever I want when I want. I am lucky I have a decent paying job to support my habits. :D:D

The only thing I am missing is I dont live in the big smoke where the quality of life is just a little bit better. :):)

I want another house (and many more) as that brings me one step closer to an early retirement from the Mining biz. Its a hard life and I dont want to be 60 yr old down there doing this ****. Im hurting now after 4 nightshifts and I volunteered to work 2 more nights for extra cash. I did 2 extra dayshifts last week also. :(:(

The sooner I get to finanical 'security', the sooner I can leave this dump and move to the Gold Coast to relax. If that means I may never buy another Ferrari ever again, then so be it. I am happy with my 348 and I wont be selling that for a very long time. :D:D

But I can understand where you are coming from mate. Knowing my luck, I will make a million over the next 20 yrs, retire happy...........then be the first **** to kick the bucket at 50 yr old. :rollyees::rolleyes:
