It's not widely discussed. You're the only one bringing it up.

What problem are you trying to solve with your engine oil?

The right oil is more obvious for transmission issues such as hard 2nd gear cold shifts, but on engines what you run into is that engines break long before they wear out, typically.

Your 355 has a vastly different valve-train from other models, too...so what's right for other cars might be quite wrong for the 355.

I was hoping to learn which oil is used most (and probably the best) in the 348 engine and transmission. But I am only getting more confused.
    Nobody uses AGIP SINT 2000?
Is Redline 75w90ns good or not good?

    My current situation:
    engine: AGIP SINT 2000 10w40
    transmission: Shell Multigrade 75/90

Ton, I also am currently using AGIP SINT 2000 10W40. For the gearbox I use Redline 75W90NS and have noticed a major difference from the crap that was in there previous (unfortunately I don't know what was in there prior, didn't think to ask the previous owner when I bought it).

    Gearbox: Redline 75w90NS
Coolant: Prestone Pre-Mixed 50/50, with Redline Wetter added
Brake Fluid: ATE Blue or Yellow

    Frequency:
    Engine & gearbox - Annually
    Coolant - every 2 years
Brake Fluid - every two years, alternating between ATE blue & ATE yellow for ease of bleeding.

I used Redline 75w90NS for first thre years of ownership, then I tried Redline Superlight Shockproof last year and had significantly increased wear and shifting was not quite as smooth. (I do a Blackstone Oil analysis on engine and gearbox oils annually)
I have gone back to Redline 75w90NS and will never use Superlite Shockproof again.

That is interesting considering the large amount of positive reviews shockproof has on here.

Careful - you are only partly right. The 'positive reviews' are for performance only (usually the Shockproof yields better shifts). However, the experts on the forum are unanimous in stating the Shockproof does not offer the same level of protection as the NS.

What do you value more - performance or protection?

I just replaced Mobil1 10W40 with Redline 10W40, reason why ... Mobil1 only makes 10W40 grade for high miles engines now and I did not wanted to use a synthetic oil with who knows what kind additive in it.

I didnt know there was a lack of protection with the shockproof... I must have missed that.

****, I guess its NS for me next service.
