NickM made these post in the 308 section
    Thread: cop following your 308.328

It takes a certain kind of personality to want to work a job, where you ruin the day of 50% of the people you encounter... everyday. Sounds like fun.

I know in my town (100,000 people) the police make obscene amount of money on overtime (the top overtime earner made over $150K)... there were many many cops that made over $100K a year. They also get to receive, for the rest of their lives something like 90% of their pay (based on the last year they worked). They can retire with this kind of pay in their early 50's (52-53 or so if they joined the force early). Let's review... $100K-$150K a year (if you are willing to put in some hours) then retire and pull in that kind of money for the rest of your life. I don't know how out-of-the-ordinary our police dept. is from others. But the police complaining now, because of the economy... and the city not having the money to pay all these guys who are retiring. Imagine: If they live for another 20 years, they could get paid $2,000,000 (coming from the taxpayers) and not work a single day. Not sure how they think a system like this can work. They are complaining because there is talk of not receiving their retirement pay which was promised (when they decided to retire).
They say it is in their contracts, that they are guaranteed that money. Meanwhile normal working people who invested their money to cover their retirement, are kind of screwed in this economy.

Despite the high pay & great retirement, our cops here are unbelievable jerks. I could tell stories for days, of friends of mine who are cops & have told me what they get away with. I've also had some fun experiences with cops I've encountered. I have at least 6 stories in which the police STARTED out conversations with me with TOTAL chip on their shoulders. I hate confrontation... but it's as though they are just looking to incite a fight or create drama where none should exist. I would bet, based on the stories I've personally heard, more than 50% of them have some sort of mental problem. Lots of them are dirty cops too. Carrying drugs &/or guns on them that they can plant on a person anytime they need to. I havent heard a story of any cop using a gun they can drop, when they need to... but what the HELL are they even carrying one for???? I heard the gun/drug thing from a friend who's brother is a motorcycle cop... he laughed and told me lots of them have "extra" guns (he's not a BS'er)... and laughed like he thought everyone knew that. Everyone of my police friends have had LARGE gun collections. I mean, like dozens & dozens of guns. If any of us had that many guns, I think we'd be forced to visit a psychiatrist, or be thrown in jail. Another friend (known him for over 30 years) who was a cop in Santa Barbara (for about 3 years... he quit because he couldn't handle the police life-style) he told me almost every single police officer who was married has a mistress (they actually had a code-name for their g-freinds... I forget what it was), no kidding. Maybe it is just here in my area... but what the hell is up with all the questionable conduct? My girlfriend is a court-reporter... wanna guess what percentage of bailiffs mess around on their significant other? (WAY more than all my "normal" friends, who aren't cops). It's as if many in law enforcement think they're above the law, & don't have to answer to anybody. The #1 profession for wife abuse: police. Need I say more? I could go on & on & on with stories. At some point you have to deduce that something is wrong with that profession. I know not everyone in law enforcement is bad, but it has WAY MORE bad people than is normal. I have known too many policemen personally... and they all have stories like this. ALL of them. My "normal" friends do not have even 1/20th the stories. I agree with what someone else said here on this forum: they are just criminals who wear uniforms.

One more story: I have another friend of mine who lives in a different state. He has a relative who is a big time drug dealer in town (he's been doing this for YEARS) guess how he stays in business? Paying off the police. Quite a few cops collect money from him. I was cracking up laughing when I heard this.... because of all the stories I've heard from my personal cop friends (as I've NEVER heard a story like this from my friends). He added; when he goes home to visit the family (my friend loves to gamble) a group of these same police, have set up a house in town for gambling. They have BUNCHES of slot machines, they also have blackjack & craps dealers! Swear to god. The only people he said they worry about are the FEDs. (I dont know why the police don't get turned in by someone who looses money in their gambling house... maybe they know not to say anything, if you know what I mean). I talked to my buddy for about 20 minutes about this... as I almost didn't believe him (although I'm 100% sure he isn't lying) as it sounded like a scene from a movie. But he gives WAY too many details. His relative (the non-cop, drug dealer) knows the police VERY well... & owns a few slot machines in the house himself (guess he worked out a deal with the police)... he pulls in $5K a month from each slot machine he owns. Nice. I don't think you can make stuff like this up.

Now, I'm sure a few of the police officers who follow a Ferrari around town, are just admiring a nice car. Most cool cops (I would think) would NOT follow you around though. If they used their heads, they would know that is VERY intimidating to most people... to be followed around by a cop. I think if they want to admire somebody's car, they should go attend a car show. They know what they are doing.

I have had good experiences with police too... don't get me wrong. They are not all jerks. I have been let off many tickets (when I was in my 20's & early 30's) in which they could have EASLIY written me up, and they let me go after pulling me over. I was let go w/o a ticket at least 5-6 times... which blew me away each time. Because I should have gotten the ticket. But within the last 10-15 years is a different story.

Once again I will waste my time. First Nick, I do think you can make this stuff up and I will prove it. Tell me the town and your friends name. I personally will report this amazing corrupt police department to the local FBI agent who comes to our department several times a month. Lets do something about what you "SWEAR TO GOD" is true. Funny though you are able to SWEAR TO GOD but you only know this via a friends story. Come on Nick right now in public tell us the name of the town and the name of your friend who the agent I know can interview so that if this were true we can put them in jail where they belong. See funny thing people just like you everyday make this crap up but they won't ever stand up and tell anyone. Gee why would that be? One because either it is simply a load of crap or two they are involved either way you sit behind that computer screen a coward who won't stand up for what is right by reporting what you say is criminal activity by police or you are a liar who just makes up BS about police. Lets go NICK put up or shut up. I will publicly take it from there and update everyone with what happens whenever I can. Signed one of the many over paid cops who yes Nick can make a 100K a year if we want to work 80 hours a week but never see our families. You think we are such jerks, look in a mirror would you.

I created this thread to avoid the continued hijack in the 308 section. So if you know nickm please let him know I am waiting to act on his information>>

This prob should go to P&R..... Even though I think Nick cant see it there. Also, a link to the original thread might be a good idea so that no context can be lost.

No argument here Doc but I didn't see any P&R connection so I started it here. I left a note for Nickm in the original thread but we all know he is not going to provide the info. I need your card because Nick is full of it.

Nickm, in his post, ranted about how so many cops had mistresses. I don't see why that bothers him--maybe he can't get one (because they are all taken by the cops)?

Zack, it doesn't bother me that much... I realize that millions of non-police cheat on their wives too.
Just seems to me, it shows part of a persons character. To me it shows a lack of empathy towards another human being. Although I also realize there are about 1000 different reasons why it may be OK to
cheat. It just struck me very funny that my one buddy told me that everyone did it where he was working. Why would he lie? I imagine he exaggerated a bit... I'm sure it couldn't have been 100% that cheated.
But I've known the guy for 30+ years, and he's not a story embellisher... if you know what I mean. Believe me... I've heard many examples from him of just plain disregard for other people. He actually quite
working for the police department after 2 or 3 years, because he couldn't handle how it was making him look at "civilians". He was pretty much taught (his words) that most people are guilty of something. He
said when he went out into the public (off duty) he couldn't switch off the police mentality. Sounds like that might NOT be a bad thing... if he is protecting all of us regular citizens, right? Always looking out for
bad guys... or potential bad guys. But there is a problem with that, as he said... it starts to jade you, as to thinking it's YOU against the world. His brother was a policeman up in Northern California... same sort
of stories. I dunno, maybe THEY watched too many movies. I have no idea why they would make this stuff up. I know quite a few other officers too... they all have almost the same stories.

If us "regular folks" acted like many of these officers act, we would all be in trouble.

PS: I know that most Police departments do quite extensive background checks into a potential recruit. If you have bad credit or other character flaws, you don't get the job. Why is that? The poilice here are told
it's not a good idea (& frowned upon heavily) to be seen smoking in public. Get haircuts & keep clean appearances etc... Why? Answer: You're supposed to be an example for the public.

If a group of people have the "Do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" attitude, there'll be problems with that group of people. That's why I think it's probably not a good idea for these guys to cheat on their wives. To have the
ability to NOT cheat, tells me that you have empathy towards another person. On the other hand, a person who demonstrates they HAVE the ability to do something bad towards another person (that they would NOT
want done to them) shows me that that person isn't able to make great decisions. Am I right or wrong?

It also struck me strange to hear that law enforcement members have the highest incidents of domestic violence at home. That's not very law abiding. I've heard many examples of what the police will
do TO YOU, if you're a civilian who abuses his wife. There's the "do as I say, not as I do", example.

I don't have a problem with police officers who are nice... there are LOTS of them. But I do have a problem with police who can't control themselves in a normal situation. I have been witness many times,
to bizarre behavior from an officer, when it ABSOLUTELY wasn't called for. When I hear these wacky stories first-hand from my friends who are police, then I get to experience it a few times... it can leave
a bad taste in your mouth. Once again... it is not EVERY Policeman I dislike... it is these guys, who clearly should not be cops.

I don't have a problem with these guys. Heck I don't even know them. I don't know if that particular story is even true. But if I had to bet money against what I heard... I wouldn't.

I might add this: In this particular circumstance (the gambling) I don't see that anybody is getting hurt (once again... IF the story is true). But I know that it IS illegal. It also makes me wonder why they would
purposefully break the law... and how can they can arrest other people for breaking a law? Do you understand where I am coming from? How do they justify it? I guess they gotta feed their family. I "get" that.
The only people I see in this story, that might be getting hurt, are the Indians who have a gambling casino quite a distance away. hehe

PS: I DON'T know this particular group of corrupt cops (once again, if the story is even true). But do you think that what happens in the movies, only happens in the movies? Items don't disappear out of the evidence
room? Guns don't disappear & show up in an officers collection? Drugs aren't taken away from criminals & they are let go? Police aren't paid off to look the other way? If it CAN happen, it will happen. And police just
happen to be around situations where a bad person (cop) could take advantage. Knowing all the other stuff (bad) that certain cops do... you cant tell me that there is LESS illegal activity in a police dept. than in the
regular world? Do you think this stuff doesn't happen? Someone said I was "watching too many movies"... it ends up in movies because it happens in real life. To try to say it isn't happening, is a lie.
    Don't you agree?

I think it's easy to slam the cops... and they certainly get more crap than they deserve.

I have quite a few LEO friends and most of them are good guys and definitely the most honest people I know. I know there are dishonest cops, and my cop friends I know well are the first ones to admit it, although unless a whole department is crooked, usually the crooked cops get straightened out either through peer pressure (no cop wants his colleague making him look bad) or they get in trouble with their superiors.

On the pay thing, I agree it's not commensurate with the job when they work tons of overtime, but that's more of a beef with all unions, not specifically LEOs. At least the LEO's are out there doing a job, whereas most of the firefighters sit around chatting 95% of the time and the electricians who love pushing jobs off to Sunday to get double time, etc, etc. Are the police unions any worse in this regard? IMO, no, and like I said at least they are doing a 'real' job, not sitting at the fire house playing cards.

On the attitude front, it could be that it takes a certain personality to be a cop, or it could be that they get a certain attitude after dealing with people in negative situations all day every day. My friends who are LEOs are great guys to hang out with and I can't say they are any different than any of my other friends, except maybe a bit more "street smart" and not doing dumb things or taking dumb risks. But when you meet a cop in a 'professional' circumstance, it's not usually a positive situation, and you aren't really going to get a good feel for what the cop is really like as a person.

Always remember, you can beat the rap but you can't beat the ride. AND, remember that the cops don't make the laws and they don't put people in jail. If you really haven't done anything wrong, then you don't have a lot to worry about even if the cop is being a jerk.

There are good people and there are bad people. Cops are no different. As for someone having a mistress--times and mores have changed, and everyone's circumstance is different. I really don't care about, or judge people's marital relationships. It's their business, and that is as it should be. If you were brought up in America, you might have a more puritan attitude about it all...I understand that, even though I don't agree with it.

Exactly what is your point? That some cops are corrupt or jerks or worse? Welcome to life. For someone going on about real life and movies, you seem to be quite awestruck by the simple fact that the world is quite imperfect, and people abuse trust and authority.

You don't need incontrovertible proof for your allegations...all you need to do is report what you heard. Do the right thing, and let the authorities proceed if they choose to. If you don't report it, you are part of the problem.

I heard much more detail than what I posted here. Like I said in the above post... I heard enough that I wouldn't bet money AGAINST it.
I have known the person who told me it, for over 15 years. He's been a very credible friend. I'm sure you have friends just like him.
Their word is gold. He has demonstrated many times over the years that his word is gold. 'Nuff said on that subject.

I say I don't know FOR SURE the story is true, because I have no desire to investigate the story to see if it is true. But that doesn't make the
story I heard, a lie. I would bet quite a bit of money that it was true story... otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. I really wish I hadn't, as
I could be doing much more constructive things.

I wasn't trying to make a point in my original post. Just sharing some info. That's it. Quite a few other guys were sharing VERY similar stories of bad cops. I just joined in on the fun... I've run into some real JERKS who should not be cops. Of course we all know there are cops who are jerks. A few guys called BS on what I wrote. I don't have the time or desire to prove what I wrote is true. I'm not one bit awestruck that the world is imperfect. It seems like some other guys here are though. I got the distinct impression that some of the guys are trying to say cops ARE perfect... by telling me, that what I shared with everyone here, is BS.
    That's it. Done. Subject over.

But you will not inform the FBI? (Which is free.) That does not make sense unless you are either making it up or would not bet money at all. That's some serious backpedaling from your "swear to god" comment.

    Ugggh...
"Swear to God"... meant; I swear, that's what I heard was going on. As in... "Isn't that unbelievable! They even have blackjack & craps dealers!" Pretty funny I thought. Just sharing what I heard. That's it. I don't see how anyone's really is getting hurt.

I didn't choose law enforcement as a profession. And I have no desire to patrol peoples activities in my spare time (or call the FBI) when I don't see anyone getting hurt in this story. I personally believe that there are way too many laws, and these poor guys have to go out & police way too many rules. That's probably why they get cranky. ;o)

If your argument is, that my story is BS because I won't report it, that's bad logic. If someone was getting hurt, it would be a different story... I'd be the 1st to report them.

I moved it to avoid the continued Hijack of the original thread Jedi. Thought that was the appropriate way to keep from jumping all over the OP's thread while trying to make my point that so many here just love to makeup stories about police. Some even "Swear To God" that the stories are true but when confronted with lets do something about what you "Swear To God" is true, amazingly the story becomes well I don't even know if its true.
I obviously am not the least bit surprised that Nick suddenly doesn't want to have this investigated because he simply decided to spice up his story with a bunch of BS. Maybe nickm and others could just stick to facts instead of feeling it necessary to write fictional stories on Fchat.

    This is a good point.

Nick, you can see what I am talking about before that cops don't like to see crooked cops. You said you "knew" but now you say you don't, so you ought to maybe retract the statements that you said you "know"?

If I had to prove everything I said to people, I would get nothing done in my life. Neither would you. What you are telling me, is that you think this cannot happen. You have your beliefs, I have mine. I know my friend VERY well. You know him not at all. So it's easy for you to call him a lier. If I told you I knew someone who robbed a bank... I bet you would believe me & ask for no proof. But for some reason you think police would not do anything illegal... I don't understand that.

Don't even try it nick. You made yourself look silly enough already. I believe it can happen and I would do everything I can to stop it if it does. You are a liar nick plan and simple don't try to change the subject by making it look like I think cops are never wrong. We are wrong all the time but if we as a whole don't do something when someone is wrong then how can we ever fix a problem? Face it nick we all know it can happen and has but not to the extreme you claim and I am still waiting NICK WHATS THE ADDRESS???

Since you edited, I guess I better respond. I never called your friend the liar nick. I called you the liar and I stand behind that. Heck you already admitted you lied. Where are you going with this?
