KA models transkit for the 1/12th scale Ford GT40 MKII Trumpeter kit. Looks pretty nice, but they forgot the biggest problem with the Trumpeter kit, the TIRES!

It's amazing that SMS looked at the kit and decided it wasn't worth the upgrade(which I thought was BS...because an upgrade kit is made to improve the base subject) yet a small...barely established group with likely less resources... like KA steps up to the plate.

    SMS = Fail

With all due respect, Chinese probably have cheaper labor than UK, and access to cheaper materials/machinery to do all this. Also, KA quality is SOOO not comparable with SMS. Their design and parts fit is simply horrible from what I had a chance to work with. But in hte end I agree with you - SMS should have done this.

I agree with both of you. He should have done it. KA is from Korea. They might already be larger than SMS as they do alot of military stuff.

I have not had a chance to speak to Matthew about this but I suspect he felt there were too may problems with the kit that a detail photo-etch set would not be able to correct. If thats the case his thinking might have been people would not spend the money to super detail a kit with rudimental problems of the base kit. Some things might be difficult to correct and a PE set will not cover it up or improve the inaccuracy.

And if thats the case then I agree with his decision.

These detail sets are not cheap to create. There is alot of up front expenses. And if there is ANY questions as to if it going to sell or not then in this climate its better to err on the side of caution, better safe than sorry.

This is just an observation. Maybe there was another reason entirely for him deciding to pull the plug. Who knows for sure.

Ed, I don't know if you've seen the kit or not...but there was a built one at the most recent ACME show...and from things we'd heard and read we were expecting this awful kit....but it really isn't that bad. I can't imagine a detail set from SMS for it would be any more expensive than the $500+ he made for the 1/12 Porsche.

    *shrugs*

MFH is calling the 312 T4 a 'hybrid injection kit'....so who knows what that means.

It's scary to even imagine what they're doing.

He said (on his own site if memory serves) that the kit was just too toy-like in some aspects to be worth doing a super detail set.

    Found it:

Forgot to mention that another company is doing a kit for the Trumpeter GT40: Thunder Valley Miniatures have one in the works.

    Hey Ryan!!
I haven't seen you or your dad in a long time.
Hope all is well with you. Didn't know you liked Ferraris. Not many in the LIARS liked much of this stuff.

Thats what I thought I heard. I have not looked carefully at the plastic kit at all. I have only read a few reviews.

Aston Martin LMP1 1/24th kit by Profil 24 due out soon.

The 917LH photo shows the Hiro 1/24th master, not the real body moulding. It does look really thin.

I hope they do an L&M 917/10 also.

Fujimi is releasing a 1/24 288 GTO with Gulf livery decals. Strange.

What scale is that? Cool car, but I don't trust MG models quality.

Nice job on your models by the way. I watch your updates all the time.

That Gulf GTO is really strange.
